"She's crying again." Sighed Ginny, shaking her head.
"Still?" Asked Harry.
"She won't come out of that room for anything. I've tried talking to her but she's just refusing. She's really torn up about this."
"Who's torn up about what?" Asked Fred, jogging over to Harry and Ginny.
"None of your business." Said Ginny.
"Hermione's crying over Ron again." Explained Harry. Ginny hit him on the arm. "Ah. Sorry. Um...that was a lie. Ignore that."
"I thought they were back together." Said Fred, confused.
"No they've broken up again." Said Ginny.
"Should I...should I go talk to her?" Asked Fred.
"I don't know, she said she wanted to be alone." Said Ginny.
"Maybe I could just check on her." Said Fred.
Ginny sighed. "You can try but even I can't get anywhere with her."
Fred nodded.
"She's in my room, but just remember she's really fragile at the moment." Said Ginny.
Fred went up to Ginny's room and knocked on the door. "Go away." Hermione sobbed.
"Mione I'm coming in, okay?" Fred said softly. He opened the door to find Hermione packing her things. "Hey, just stop a minute. Where are you off to?" He asked.
Hermione had tears running down her face. "If you've come to get me to talk about Ron, then you can..."
"That's not why I came." He said.
"Well what are you doing here if you..." she said.
"I came to give you one of these." He said, walking over to her and giving her a hug. "I feel like this is what you need right now." He whispered. Hermione clung to Fred's shirt as she sobbed into his chest.
"Shh it's okay." He said gently. "Just let it out, I'm here." He said softly.
Hermione said nothing, but she squeezed him tighter to tell him to not let go. She felt a great deal of comfort in Fred. He hugged her more warmly and more comfortingly than anybody ever had. He stroked her hair softly as he felt his shirt dampen with her tears.
"I'm sorry." She sniffed.
"Shh don't apologise. I'm always here, alright?" He said, gently. She nodded. "Even if you cry all over my best t shirt."
She looked up at him. "I'm kidding, Granger. If you need to cry, cry. I'm sure my shirt will survive." He winked.
They hugged for a few moments longer, then Hermione let go. She dried her eyes and Fred noticed she'd stopped crying. "You don't have to talk about anything you don't want to, Granger. I can sit here and keep you company though if you want."
"I'd like that." Said Hermione, going back to her packing.
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"My old place. There's not space for both me and Ronald in this house anymore."
"On..on your own?" He asked.
"Yeah. I'm fine though, I think I can really think and get my own space there." She said.
"Do you want some company? It's totally fine you can tell me to back off if I'm overstepping but I really don't like the thought of you being there on your own." He said.
She looked at Fred. She was prepared to push him away to tell him to leave her alone, but instead she said: "that'd actually be really nice, thank you."
