MACKENZIE'S DAY started pretty normal. After her usual chaotic morning, which consisted of leaving her apartment a giant mess, she was now standing next to three of her co-workers in the middle of a hallway, waiting for Dr. Bailey so they could start working.

Meanwhile Meredith was being pestered by George and Izzie to let them move in with her, again. They were making her regret putting those flyers in the hospital.

"Why do you put up posters for roomates if you don't want roomates?" Izzie complained.

"I do want roommates. We're together 100 hours a week. You want to live together, too?"

This whole thing made Mackenzie glad to have her small apartment, even if there was barely any space. There were no walls separating the rooms, except for the ones on the bathroom.

One side of the apartment, the one next to the bathroom, was her bedroom, with the queen-sized bed she loved so much (one that cost a lot, yes, but was worth it after long days) against one of the walls, various feathery pillows and a blue quilt on top; a small nightstand sitting beside it with an alarm clock, a moon-shaped lamp and a forgotten book she had pretended to read some time ago; a desk full of  books scattered above and below it against the opposite wall, some non-medical books were neatly stacked on a shelf on the same wall (although she was always too tired to read them, at least they looked good there) ; and lastly, at the end of the bed, a wardrobe big enough to hold most of her clothes, the ones she didn't wear much were kept in a box above it.

The other half of the place was what you could call the living room and the kitchen. With the typical stuff, a refrigerator, a counter table and a stove (placed in that order) on one side, and a not-so-large table with four chairs in the center of the room. There was actually space for more things, like a tv and a couch, but Mackenzie didn't have the money for that yet.

She was lucky the rent wasn't too expensive, otherwise she could picture herself begging Derek to let her live with him in his so beloved trailer.

Still, she was happy with it. Despite spending most of the time in the hospital, whenever she was there she found some kind of comfort in the beige walls and dark-brown furniture. And the best part? It was completely hers, no one around to bother her for the mess, no one to fight with over the bathroom or any of the things she knew awaited Meredith, no matter who she accepted as roommates.
