I knocked softly on Lloyd's door. He opened and shouldered the bags. I shifted and we left the house. I led him around to the back and into the forest there. Then led him to the Bounty. He pulled out the extra bag I packed and filled it with his clothes. Then grabbed the other extra bag and filled it with some clothes for the Ninja. Then he turned to me. "Lead the way to the Vampire...uh...place?"

I let out a sharp bark of laughter and shook myself. Then started walking in the direction I was always told the Vampire Palace (I'll have to tell Lloyd it's a palace when I shift) was. I would get the scent of vampires every now and then which was irritating because they smelled like smoke and it bothered my nose. I wish I could talk to Lloyd while I was in this form but only wolves can use telepathy. Lloyd sat on a log and I hurried over to him. He scratched behind my ears which just made me lean into him more. He laughed. "You're going to knock me over," he said.

I stepped back and shifted. "I could if I wanted to," I replied and sat beside him. He handed me a granola bar and a water bottle. "Lloyd, if I get injured badly, I'm going to need to stay in wolf form so it heals fast."

"Does it not heal fast when you're in your human form?"

"It does just not as quickly." I bit into the granola bar. "Also, it's called the Vampire Palace."

He nodded. "No wonder they have a dungeon."

I smiled. "Yes." Then I remembered something my mom gave me and I dug through a backpack. It was a watch but it allowed wolves to speak mind to mind with humans. I held it out. "Lloyd, if you wear this then we can talk mind to mind. My birth mother made it." He took it and I watched him put it on. "If you lose it, I will eat you," I added.

He blinked. "Will you?"

I grinned and shook my head. "No. Humans taste disgusting."

His mouth twitched. "On behalf of my human kin, I thank you."

I laughed. "Anyway, I won't hurt you if you lose it. My birth mother made several and I have them all. I forgot I had packed it."

"Oh." He looked at the watch. "What happens if a wolf gets bitten by a vampire?"

I shifted into my wolf form. >It hurts like hell for a while but stops after a few hours.<

He blinked again. "Oh, so that's how it works."

I gave him a doggy grin. >We should get going.<

He stood and picked up the bags. "Okay." Then he frowned. "Is it okay that I'm answering you out loud or do you want me to reply in your head?"

>You can answer me out loud. But when we're at the Vampire Palace or fighting it might be a good idea to speak mind to mind.<

"Got it." We continued on with me in the lead. "So do you know how far your territory is from the...Vampire Palace?"

>A thousand miles away. We hate being near them.< I sneezed. >And they smell terrible.<

"What do they smell like?"

>Smoke.<

He nodded and fell silent for a little while then said, "How does your father's tunnel get to the Palace so fast?"

I scared a bunny out of its hole and chased it for a minute. >There's some kind of portal in the center of it that pops him on the other side quickly and it's not really my father's. It belongs to the Alpha.< I let the bunny getaway.

"And your father is the Alpha," he said pointedly. He watched the bunny go. "Did you do that on purpose?"

>Yes.<
