Promise

I let out a short bark of laughter. >Why would you help us? You're one of them.< I asked.

She sighed. "I don't approve of how things are going."

>What about the male bloodsucker behind you? Is he here to 'help' too?<

She glanced behind herself. "That's Luka. He's the son of the Vampire King but he hates what's going on too."

I barred my teeth as Luka came out. He stayed back. Smart bloodsucker. >You didn't give us your name.< I snarled.

She frowned. "I didn't? Oops. I'm Kimberly. Kim for short."

"Do you think we're going to end up killing the Vampire King?" Lloyd asked.

She looked at him. "Ah, the Green Ninja who succeeded in getting away." She glanced at me when I gave her a warning growl. "That's what we're hoping you'll do so Luka can take his place."

"We just want to save my friends."

She gave a sad smile. "Oh, dear. They are extremely guarded and you'll need vampire help to get through."

"You will not be killing the King with just us two," Luka said. "I have many supporters and they will help us to take him out."

>How many specifically?< I asked.

"Around fifty."

"And how many does the King have?" Lloyd asked.

"Fifty as well."

>So pit your vampire against his.< I growled. >And leave us out of this.<

Luka shook his head. "We can't do that."

>Why?<

"Well...it would help if we could have some help on our side from the elemental masters," Kimberly said.

I snarled. >You just want to use the Ninja.<

"They probably won't be able to fight anyway," Lloyd added.

Kimberly frowned again. "Why not?"

"Because I'm sure they're being fed on."

Luka sighed. "True. But you're going to be there and you are pretty strong."

"Thanks but I can't help."

"Why?" Kimberly demanded.

Lloyd started coughing. After he was finished he shut his eyes. >Lloyd?< I said worriedly.

His eyes slid open. "I'm fine. That one just hurt a little."

I turned to the vampires. >He's ill because of the venom in your fangs. It doesn't react well with his blood. That's why he can't help you.<

"Is the venom making it hard for him to use his power?" Kimberly asked.

Lloyd shook his head. "No."

"Then I don't see why you can't help."

I snarled. >Don't you get it? If he gets into a battle and has to cough that could mean the end of his life!< I gave them a look of disgust. >Oh, wait. I forgot who I was talking to. You bloodsuckers don't care about humans so you know nothing about them.<

Kimberly glared. "That was mean."

>You deserve it. You didn't even bother to learn anything about humans. All you do is keep them alive so they can be your blood bags.<
