⚠️ANGST, HURT, NO COMFORT⚠️
Nights like these are always the hardest.
When the mattress feels a little too big, the air a little too cold, no amount of pillows or blankets could hide the fact that you were alone.
Nights like these were the hardest because it was every night. There was no escape, and no savior to be found.

You spun around the room, not caring what you stepped on in the process. Glass crunched and metal clanked under your boots, but it did it matter. You laughed happily as the music got louder.
"How does it sound? It still sounds distorted to me." Edward asked, still fiddling with the record player. Crackling erupted from the speakers when his screwdriver slipped, the needle scratching the surface of the record.
"Eddie, you're making it worse, just admit this is as good as it's going to get and dance with me!" You call to him.
You made your way to him, gracefully twirling before stopping behind him and wrapping your arms around his slender waist. You finally had a night to relax and not worry about the undead, and as much as you normally love to watch him tinker, you just wanted to dance with him right now. Richtofen grumbled, still fucking with the wires.
"I can do better than this, meine liebe. Just let me-" he yelped as you pulled harshly on his waist, the record skipping again but you succeeded in getting him away from it.
His laugh was sweetness to you ears, finally dropping the screwdriver and turning in your arms, grasping your waist snugly. "You are always such a distraction from mein work, fraulein." The two of you fell into the swing of the music, some Marlene Dietrich tune you didn't know the words to, but Edward didn't seem to either. It was serene, in his arms you were home.
He led you around the room, twirling you and holding you close to him, your head placed in the crook of his neck. You didn't even notice the music had stopped. He certainly didn't care, he kept humming the chorus, finally bringing you into a dip that led into a kiss.
His lips were soft, wind chapped but you still melted against them. He asked for no more, took no less. He kissed you with all the love he had for you. Holding you in that dip until he was satisfied you knew how he felt. You couldn't help the giggles that escaped your lips, happy to see the playful doctor the stress had all but taken from you.
"You know, smiling looks great on you. You should do it more often." You tease, leaning up to kiss his cheek.
"What are you talking about? I smile plenty. I am quite the cheerful person, you know." He pointed to his face as you two continued to sway back and forth. "See, the smile lines to prove it."
You rolled your eyes, hand coming up to place it on Richtofen's cheek, ghosting your fingers over the creases that were beginning to show on his face.
"These are probably from you yelling at people."
"Oh is that so?" He chuckled, which pulled an affirmative hum from you. "Maybe so. Aber, I know when I'm around you, I smile enough. Perhaps too much. I cannot let the others know I have feelings. "
He scrunched up his face at the taste of the words, knowing if Dempsey saw he felt other emotions besides robot and angry robot, he wouldn't hear the last of it.
"Would it be so bad if they knew you have a heart? That you are human ?" You asked. You felt his chest press tighter against yours. His nose pressed against the top of your head as he breathed in your scent.
