"(Y/n), bitte-"

"No, absolutely not! I refuse! I'd rather stand here and let those fuckers rip my flesh off than go off with... him."

"I can hear you, you know!"

Yours and Edward's eyes dart towards the voice, neither of you really trying to keep your voice down. Richtofen, the other Richtofen, stood on the other side of the room, arms crossed and seemingly unimpressed.

Things have been so fucking weird here lately, weirder than normal. Nikolai was now the leader of the group, Edward letting go of the reins so now the russian can save the future, and so that's what brings you here, to Camp Edward, the pinnacle of the nuclear family - literally. This place is a nuke test site. You were here to find an elemental shard or something. And while all this was strange in of itself, to top it off, you know who else is here? The other versions of the gang. And like always, there was no explanation of why. There's never an explanation.

Were they different versions of them? Because, last time you checked, they were all dead. Hell, you watched Edward shoot his counterpart in the head so he should be dead dead. Perhaps they are earlier versions of them in the same timeline, where they haven't met their fate yet. With all the time travel business you tend to get into, that's probably the most likely scenario.

You turn back to Edward, crossing your arms, exasperated that he even suggested it. "That dude is insane."

"That 'dude' is me, und he's just... a bit eccentric, that's all." He tried to reason.

"You are downplaying his psychopathy and you know it."

"I wouldn't be asking you if I thought you couldn't handle it. I am afraid to leave him to his own devices und it would be unwise to pair him with anyone else."

"So I have to babysit him?"

Nikolai, your Nikolai, had asked for Edward's help. With him leading your gang for so long, Nikolai still looked to him for guidance and help when needing to do a more difficult task. Edward had made it very clear he did not want Richtofen to come along and possibly fuck everything up, so he was trying to pawn him off on you.

"Is anyone going to ask if Edward even wants to go with (y/n)? Huh? Or does my opinion not matter?" Richtofen whined.

"Nein, your opinion does not matter. You need to have adult supervision at all times." Edward muttered to him.

Watching the two of them interact was so strange. Richtofen was fascinated with his younger self, almost admiring him at times, while Edward was just annoyed by him more than anything. On more than one occasion since being here he went on a rant about his older counterpart.

Morality wise, of course they were different. Edward was ethically dubious at best, yes, but he did try to do the right thing. Richtofen was actually just evil. Okay maybe not evil but pretty close. But perhaps you were just biased. Personality wise? You'd hate to be the one to tell him, but the more Edward insists they are as different as two people can be, the more similarities you can see between them, you weren't sure if you should be worried or not. I mean, at least Edward wasn't a psychopath... yet.

"(y/n) bitte, I will be indebted to you und will pay it back however you see fit, ja?" Edward pleaded, subtly but not so subtly shuffling to the door indicating he really needed to go. You glared daggers at him but eventually ceded the point. You just sighed.

"Fine, whatever."

"Danke, Schatz." He kissed your forehead before grabbing his rifle off the table, walking out the door to fight the hordes or something, leaving you with his older counterpart, something you really dreaded.
