"What do you mean you got a new job, Mom? What does that mean?" I ask. "Does this change anything for us?"

"Well, it does change a few things. We'll have a change in pay. That means more money coming in. But, unfortunately, you're going to have to switch schools again." My mom answers.

"No! Mom! Please, I have all my clubs and teachers and my whole life sorted out just how I like it there! Please don't make me leave!"

"I find it both concerning and a little amusing how you didn't mention leaving your friends, or lack of them," Mom states as she tries to hide a smile behind her hand. "Maybe we can remedy that at your new school."

"Mom please don't make me! I like it at this school! It feels like I just settled in and now we have to move again?!"

"Darling I know it isn't fair to you, but since your dad passed, I have no other choice."

"Ugh fine! I hate when you pull the dead husband card on me." I look down at my hands for a bit too long, then put on a fake happy face for Mom. "So where are we moving to now? Manchester? Edinburgh? OH, London..???" I ask.

"Well...it-"

I start to get more excited as I think about the opportunities.

"Ooo mom are we moving to France?! I've been meaning to practice my French more!"

"Darling we're-"

"I've been getting good grades on most of my assignments, but I obviously need to study more!"

"ELOISE!"

I jerk my head away from my French notebook to look at my mom. In the 8 seconds it took for her to begin talking I had already decided where we were moving wasn't going to be good, just by the look on her face...and a sinking gut feeling.

"We're moving to Louisiana."
