"Mom? What's going on?"
"Oh, darling! We were worried sick about you!"
"We?" I ask. And then I remember that Acadia was standing over me when I woke up as well. "Wait. Do you know Acadia?"
"Yes, she's your friend right? She came and got me as soon as I walked through the door. I dropped all my groceries and came running!"
I look at Acadia with concerned eyes and she gives me a look that says "Calm down. It's ok."
"Mom...do you know that Acadia's-"
Acadia cuts me off before I can finish my sentence.
" a great friend. Acadia's a great friend! And I completely agree Eloise!"
She gives me a different look this time. This one says "Shut up!"
"Yes mom, Acadia is an amazing friend for going to get help! I'm so glad you were both able to get to me in time."
"Of course darling! I would never want anything to happen to you! I'm going to stay right here next to you until I knownyou're ok and nothing else happens to you. What do you need honey? Some soup? Some tea? Some-"
"Mom. I'm fine. Really. You don't have to stay." I say trying to be as convincing as I can be. I need to solve the mystery of what just happened and she's only making me feel crazier than I already am.
"Are you absolutely sure darling? I don't mind staying." she says with concern on her face.
"Yes mother! I am ok."
My mom begins to walk out the door but stops and says:
"Let me know if you change your mind, ok?"
"I promise."
"What the hell happened, El?!"
"Acadia, to be completely honest, I have no idea!"
