Chapter Two

Riley's POV

I walked down the empty streets, not knowing where I was going. Echoes boomed here and there, yet there I was, strolling casually, like every other human. I had my stake in my leather jacket, in case a vampire was to attack me. I had to watch out. It was night and my stars were dim lights, guiding me across the street.

Eventually, the ice cold breeze shot my skin with frost and chill. I rubbed my hands against my thighs so my legs would keep me walking. I had to find him. That traitor. That boastful, blood-thirsty being. I hate him. Ever since--

I heard a screech. It was faint, however loud enough for me to pick it up. The air was becoming heavier and damp. It was going to rain. I glimpsed the clouds hovering above me. They were like white ink on black  paper; clear and obvious. Making my situation, just a little more scarier.

"Hello?" I muttered under my foggy breath. My hands had turned into ice cubes so I breathed into them to make them warmer. Another screech. Louder this time.

Three screeches. Five. Ten.

Silence.

Abruptly, a giant colony of bats glid across the sky, making a levitating blanket above me. It was actually quite beautiful. Absolutely amazing.

I came across a sign. It was too dark to read exactly what it said, as, the letters in the beginning had been washed off. Cheap paint, I guess.

"ARIA HERITAGE: ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK," I mumbled. My brain was telling my not to enter, however, by instinct was saying to enter, even if it was at my own risk. Out of no-where, the gates opened automatically and I heard whispers over lapping one another saying; DINNER'S READY.

I strolled calmly down the gates and into the castle. Ever since he took over, vampires have pretty much ruined the world. Wrecked the city. Now, breathers are afraid to feed themselves, afraid to feel the venom of a vampire bite surge through their veins.

"Erin, uncork a bottle of someone young and ambitious," I heard someone order. Then, I saw HIM.

He was sitting casually on a throne; a black out-lined and intricately carved framed seating. A female was with him, who later flitted to follow his orders. I watched as he lay his feet on a dark oak table and sharpened his fangs.

He looked suspicious and smelt the moist air. My scent was drowning in his nose. I blinked my eyes, and suddenly, he was gone.
