Today was the first official day of summer break. School is finally over and I am finally free, until it gets bad again. But I try not to think about it. I'm sitting on my window seat in my room reading a book, A Good Girl's Guide To Murder. Charlie jumps off my bed and starts to scratch at the door. She either wants food or needs to go to the bathroom so I open the door and follow her downstairs.

Instead of her food bowl she walks to the front door. I grab her pink harness and leash off of the hook on the wall and start to put it on her. I walk to the other side of the hallway and slide on my Ugg slippers. I'm currently wearing nike socks, men's loose boxers, and a brown The Cure hoodie. I take my phone and AirPods out of my pocket and connect them together. Charlie is now whining.

"You need to work on your patience skills."

I grab the end of her leash and open the front door and Charlie immediately bolts outside. She uses the bathroom in my front yard and then she starts to
walk down the street. I always follow her wherever she goes because I want her to feel free and be happy. I'm listening to music and walking my puppy, this summer's off to a good start I guess.

On our way back home we're a house away and I notice 2 cars in the driveway. I figured the people living there must have made it to their summer home here. Their front door opens and suddenly Charlie detaches herself from her leash somehow and is running towards the house. I run after her trying to catch her before she runs inside. I catch her right as she's running up the stairs on their porch. I pick her up and put her leash back on. I take an AirPod out before I talk.

"I'm so sorry," I say before I look up to see who's at the door.

Woah. He's tall, and tan, and has bright blue eyes. His hair is brown but somehow still golden. Not my normal type but still, woah.

"Oh don't worry about it, your dog's too cute," He says. "What's it's name?" He asks.

"Her name is Charlie. You can pet her if you want, she doesn't bite," I smile at him. He starts to pet her.

"Do you live around here? I don't think I've seen you before," he asks curiously.

"Oh yeah I actually live right next door in the blue house, but I've lived in Cousin's for most of my life," I tell him and then I start contemplating if I'm over sharing.

"Really? What's your name?" He asks again.

"I'm Lilith but most people call me Lily," I start to blush.

"Well I'm Jeremiah. Maybe we should hangout sometime since you live so close, make sure to bring Charlie," he smiles and gives her one last pet.

"I'll think about it," I smile and start to walk away.

I put my AirPod back in. I walk Charlie back home and take her harness and leash off when we get inside. I slide my Ugg's off and put away my AirPods. "Where'd you go?" I hear my mom's voice around the corner. "I took Charlie on a walk," I respond as I start to walk into the living room where she is. I sit down on the couch beside her and Charlie jumps up on my lap.

"Have you met the neighbors yet?" I ask my mom. "I did actually. They're just staying for the summer but I talked to one of the moms and apparently they've been staying here every summer for years," she responds. "One of the moms?" I ask. "Yes. There's two families that stay there. There's one mom who has two boys, her name is Susannah and her kids names are Jeremiah and Conrad. I think she said Jeremiah was 16 and Conrad was 18. And then the other mom her name is Laurel, and she has two kids, one boy one girl. Their names are Steven who is 17, and Belly who is 15," she tells me.

"Belly?" I ask. "Yeah, sort of odd but I'm sure there's meaning behind it," she laughs. "Actually I just met Jeremiah. Charlie decided to get off her leash and try to run into their house and he was opening the door," I tell her and laugh. "You guys are the same age, maybe you should hangout. And with Belly too, I should invite them over for dinner!" she exclaims as she thinks of the idea. "Sure, I wanna meet Belly. It would be nice to have a neighbor friend I guess," I say. My mom gives me a heartwarming smile as she realizes I'm trying to make the best of this summer.

She looks at the clock. "Well it's already 5, maybe I should invite them over tomorrow," she contemplates out loud. "Good idea, I'm going back to my room, c'mon Charlie," I say in a baby voice as I run up the stairs.

I go back to my window seat and get back to reading my book. I cover up with a blanket and Charlie jumps up on my lap to get cozy. I can't read though, because I can't stop thinking. That boy. He's different. Good different. He's not like the f-boys and highschool dropouts I'm used to around here. I'll have to get to know him more. I also can't wait to meet Belly. And learn why her name is Belly.

I sit my book down and slide down to lean my head against a pillow to get cozy with Charlie. Fast enough, I'm sound asleep. Dreaming and wishing it wasn't summer; that it's winter break. Except I'm not mother nature. So I have to deal with reality and let the truth overcome me. But that can wait until I wake up.
