"Because who ever I was talking to didn't exist..."

I fumbled with my keys on my way to my apartment door wanting to quickly get inside and avoid having to interact with my neighbors.

It was still early in the morning and I'm hung over dressed in clothes Billie let me borrow with a pair of sunglasses on and my hair up in a messy loose bun.

I eventually open the door and I'm immediately met by April with a concerned yet aggravated expression mounted on her face. "What happened last night? You never came home."

I walk past her letting her question fly over my head just wanting to find some Motrin to ease my throbbing head. "Imani how many times are you going to ignore me? Whose clothes do you have on and why do you smell like YSL?"

"Oh my lord April please shut the fuck up." I was becoming easily agitated with all the questions I was barely awake to even process my surroundings right now. "I went out and stayed at a friend's house. I didn't want to come home."

"Why?"

I stayed silent catching flashes of last night playing over in my head. I was drunk and sort of upset about my broken relationship and I couldn't deny anymore to myself that I missed the way Billie made me feel emotionally and physically.

The only thing was I didn't really feel guilty about it. Time and time again the people I end up with prove to me that I deserve better all except for Billie. "I'm going to go finish packing."

"No Imani we need to talk dude. The way you've been acting with me recently is fucking ridiculous. I thought we talked it out, what's your problem?"

She followed close behind me all the way to our bedroom still yapping about as I tried my best to tune her out. I pull off my hoodie and throw it onto the bed pulling out a duffel bag from my closet.

"You have this attitude towards me recently and it's completely unprovoked. I ask you to do something out of respect for me and you decide to be hard headed and do it anyway man. It feels like you hate me or something."

I paused in the midst of my actions hearing her words. Turning on my heels I look at her leaning against the foot rest of the bed with my arms folded over my chest. "Now you see what it's like." She furrowed her eyebrows just staring at me.

"What the fuck are you talking about Imani?" Now it seems all of the sudden she completely forgot about the way she was treating me a couple months ago. Like all the arguments and bickering had been completely wiped from her frontal lobe.

"We'll finish this conversation later, I have things to do." She kisses her teeth getting up from her seat and snatches her keys off the night stand. "Man fuck you."
