After some time, Kit decided to leave.
Tap tap
She heard footsteps behind her. She assumed it was that kid who lives next to her who always came to the rooftop to admire the garden. Kit walked towards the door to go inside.
"Where do you think you're going?"
An arm reached out and stopped Kit in her tracks. She looked to where the arm came from.
"Do you need something?" Kit asked.
"Oh yes, I do." Said a masculine voice.
Kit got goosebumps. I have a bad feeling about this, she thought. It started to rain again. The sky was roaring. Kit walked backward and the person walked forward. All Kit could see was his eyes. He had unusually yellow eyes.
"What is it that you need?" Kit asked. She was shaking.
"Well, let's just say I need to... kill you." The man pulled out a machete. Kit started to panic. The man then took a few steps forward and Kit took a few steps back.
"W-wait. Um, let's talk about this! Why do you want to kill me!?" Kit stuttered.
"Oh, well, you see, I'm doing a job. I didn't ask my employer any questions. So, if you'll excuse me..." He took a step forward and lightning struck.
"Wait a sec!" When Kit took another step back, she bumped into the railing. "If you.." Kit cleared her throat. "If you kill me, you- uh.." Kit was struggling to come up with an excuse. The man took a step back.
"Well?" He said. Kit gave up. She sighed.
"How about I make a deal with you?" The man then started to slowly change. He changed into a man with fox ears and a tail. His hair was a ginger ombre color, just like that man from the cafe. He was wearing a suit with a vest and long boots. He still had his yellow eyes and he also had black markings under them.
"What the-"
"I'm Zurui Kitsune, a demon. Pleased to meet you." He said. "As you can see, I'm a shapeshifter."
Kit held onto the railing. "Wait-"
Zurui put away his machete and clasped his hands together. "Yes, that's right. I've been interacting with you throughout the day. I was at the cafe, the subway- oh, and not to mention I was your dear friend Alexander."
Kit gasped. "Wait but-" Then something hit her. "-Oh, does your eye color never change? Is that why you were wearing sunglasses when you were Alexander?"
Zurui clapped. "Bravo, you figured me out!" He stopped clapping and put his hands in his pocket. "Now, back to that deal I mentioned. I've recently been looking for a partner. That is- someone to help me with the assassination jobs I receive."
Kit's eyes widened. "I'm not gonna kill people."
Zurui chuckled. "Oh, you don't have to, although I would prefer if you do." He shrugged. "What I need you to do is to help me locate certain people, find out information about said people and infiltrate certain buildings."
Kit crossed her arms. "And what makes you think I can do that?"
Zurui smirked. "Oh please, I obviously did some digging on you before arriving in New York. I know your brother taught you a thing or two about hacking."
Kit looked away and sighed. "If I help you, you won't kill me?"
"As long as my employer doesn't know of our little deal, you're safe. You have my word." Said Zurui. He winked.
"O-ok.." Kit hesitated and uncrossed her arms. "Thank you for.. sparing me." There was silence for a few seconds. "Well.. I should get going."
Zurui smiled. "Alright, I'll see you tomorrow, partner!" He blew a kiss and disappeared. Kit went to her apartment. She laid down on her bed.
"What have I gotten myself into now..." She sighed.
