The plan for the evening was simple: go bowling with friends, have fun, and let loose. Emma, Laura, and Sofie were eager to enjoy a night out, but their excitement dimmed as they noticed Jack and Elijah arriving at the bowling alley. The expressions on their faces were far from jovial; anger and sadness lingered in their eyes. It was evident that they had been in an argument just before arriving.
Despite the tension, no one dared to ask what had transpired. Instead, they exchanged uneasy glances and proceeded with the plan.
"We'll join you in the next game," Elijah announced, guiding Jack away from the group. Jack mentioned he would go get drinks, and the atmosphere grew even tenser in their absence.
The bowling game continued, but the laughter and camaraderie that usually filled the air were replaced by an uncomfortable silence. Everyone tried to focus on the game, but it was evident that their thoughts were with Jack and Elijah.
After a few rounds, they decided to call it a night. Emma, Sofie, and Laura exchanged hugs and goodbyes, their affection for Emma evident in their words.
"Em, we love you, and you're going to be perfect for our Jack. Welcome to the group," Laura said, her voice filled with sincerity and warmth as they shared a heartfelt hug.
With a final wave, the three friends left, leaving Emma alone with her thoughts. She couldn't help but feel a pang of concern for Jack, but she also knew that he needed some space to process whatever had transpired earlier.
In the car on the way home, Emma glanced at Jack, his face etched with stress, exhaustion, and a hint of sadness. Her desire to ask him what had happened warred with her understanding of his need for a moment of quiet.
As they reached her apartment, Jack seemed drained, and Emma decided to give him the space he needed. She understood that sometimes words were not enough, and actions spoke louder. She gave him a gentle kiss and whispered, "I'm here for you, Jack. Whenever you're ready to talk."
With that, Jack left her apartment, and Emma watched him go, her heart heavy with concern.
