Chapter 12: Kaigaku

Sorry I've been gone. Had my bowling season, lacrosse conditioning, and joined my schools archery club.

5 weeks later because I'm lazy

Tanjiro 's POV

  After a week of training with each hashira I can finally start going on missions again.

  As I made my way to get breakfast, Inosuke jumped on me.

  "AHH!" I yelled, as we fell to the ground. *HAHAHA I GOT YOU KAMPAJIRO!" Inosuke yelled.

  'Stupid pig!' "Haha yeah you did. Now can you get off me so we can go get food?" I asked, smiling at him.

  "TASTY FOOD!" He yelled then ran off. I got up and followed after.

   'Stupid pig. When is he gonna stop doing that? I would kill him but it would blow my cover. Gotta keep innocent angle fasaud.'

  "Good morning Aoi-san." I said as I walked in. "How are you doing this morning?" "Good. Excited to get your first mission in a while?" she replied.

  "Yep." I sat down in-between Zenitsu and Inosuke. "Is there anything you can tell me about him?" I asked. She handed me my food.

  "Thank you." I replied.

  As I started eating I turned to Zenitsu, he's been quiet and has barely looked or talked to me all month.

  "How are you Zenitsu?" I asked. "I'm fine." He answered.

  I feigned concern. "Are you sure? You've been acting weird all month." I asked.

  "Zenitsu whatever is bothering you you need to say." Aoi said firmly.

  He sighed.

  "Tanjiro the night of your first training, I might have read the letters you got." He admitted.

  Aoi and I looked at him shocked. If I didn't hate him before I would now. "You invaded his privacy?!" She yelled.

  He looked down and nodded. He looked guilty and pitiful. Disgusting.

  "I-i-i knew you and Kaigaku are close but... You never mentioned having a boyfriend." He said.

  I just sat there, mouth a gape.

  Just then the insect hashira walked in.

  "My my, what did I miss?" She asked. "Zenitsu read Tanjiro's private letters and just revealed he has a boyfriend." Aoi answered.

  "You have a boyfriend?" She asked me. I nodded. "I met him after final selection. But I didn't know Zenitsu knew." I answered. "Zenitsu, why were you reading my letters?" I asked.

  "Yes Zenitsu, that is very disrespectful." The hashira said.

  Zenitsu had a sent of guilt and sorrow. Pathetic.

  Before he could respond my crow appeared.

  "CAW CAW TANJIRO KAMADO TOWN TO THE NORTH! CAW CAW TANJIRO KAMADO TOWN TO THE NORTH!" It squaked.

  I stood up. "I better go." I said, leaving.

3 hours later

  Finally arrived.

  I started walking around. The crow mentioned there will be another demon hunter here. I wonder who.

  "TANJIRO!" Someone behind me yelled.

  I turned around to see Kaigaku running up to me with a wide smile.

  "KAIGAKU!" I yelled back, huge smile and waving at him. Once he caught up we hugged each other.

  "I haven't seen you for over a year. I've missed you." Kaigaku said, rubbing my head. "I've missed you too." I replied.

  "How's life been?" He asked as we started walking. "Mostly good." I answered. "Training with the hashiras is fun and I can use the breathing styles they're teaching me." I paused and sighed which seemed to worry him.

  "But?" Kai asked. "I just found out today that Zenitsu has been reading my letters. Yours included." I said.

  He looked in-between annoyed and angry. "I'm guessing there's more." He said. I nodded.

  "This isn't how I wanted to tell you, but, he outed me by revealing I have a boyfriend." I said.

  "Tanjiro." I heard Oto-san. "Yes?" I replied. "I just got word from Kokushibou that he saw you and another demon hunter at the village he's hunting at." He said.

  "Oh really? Where?" I asked. "The forest. He said he saw you with another demon hunter?" He asked. "That's Kaigaku. Don't kill him. Can you tell him if they fight to turn him into a demon?" I asked. "I'll tell him now. Stay safe." He said.

  "Tanjiro?" Kai asked. "Huh?" I asked, now noticing he was talking.

  "Are you ok? You zoned out for a minute." He asked. I nodded. "Just a lot of things on my mind." I said.

  He stopped and looked around, prompting me to stop as well.

  "We can't really look around until dark. Do you smell anything?" He asked. I smelled the air, catching a wift of Koku. "Small but I can't pinpoint it." I said.

  "Wanna book a room? Seems like you need to talk." He said. I looked down and nodded.

20 mins later

  We sat down on our beds, facing each other.

  "So. What's going on?" He asked.

  "It's the whole Zenitsu thing. The hashira training has been fun and even easy but he was acting weird all month. Now knowing why I... I don't feel like I can trust him. It also made me realize how much I miss Enmu and you." I said, first time in a while letting me mask fall.

  I looked up as I felt a hand firmly be placed on my shoulder.

  "Ignore him." He said. "Focusing on Zenitsu will only hold you back, don't let him." I smiled at him.

  We sat in quiet for a few seconds.

  "Soooooo... Your boyfriend's name is Enmu. You sound serious about him." He said in a teasing, annoying older brother tone. Same one Ani sometimes uses.

  I grabbed a pillow and hit him. "Be quiet." I said, laughing, causing him to start laughing.

  "What? I need to give him a shovel talk." He said between laughs.

  He grabbed his pillow and hit me. A fun pillow war ensued.

  After a bit we both fell back on one of the beds, tired but laughing.

  "Hey Kai." I said, getting his attention. "Yeah?"  "What would you do if you were turned into to demon?" I asked.

  He stopped for a few seconds. "Find you and turn you into a demon as well." He deadpanned. He looked at me. "You better do the same." He said .

  I looked at him confused. "What? You're like a little brother to me and I'm not living as a demon while you're a slayer or vise versa. Got it?!" He asked. 

  "Ok ok." I said, laughing.

Midnight

  "KAIGAKU!!!!"
