                          Tails POV.

I sat in a booth right next to Sonic, and a feeling of uncertainty and dread filled my stomach. making me not want to eat and just go home. I didn't know this man, but I didn't like him. He's a pretty nice guy. He got Sonic some roses and brought me a toy airplane since he didn't know what I liked.

I didn't know this man, but I already didn't like him, and I don't know why. I decided to at least try and give him a chance; he hasn't been mean or condescending in any way so far, but if I notice anything, I'll be sure to tell Sonic.

"So, what do you do for a living?" I asked, genuinely wanting to get to know this guy before I make any rash decisions. I watched him carefully as he answered my question; he wasn't nervous, so that's good. "I'm an office worker; I work about 5 blocks from here," he answered enthusiastically.

"What grade are you in?" He asked as he leaned in a bit more towards me. I glanced at Sonic to show that I was a little uncomfortable at how close he was. He'd gotten so close I could smell his breath, which reeked of onions, garlic, and fish. I don't know if it was because of how close he was or if his oral odor was so bad he desperately needed to go to the dentist. "He's in 6th grade; he skipped two grades." Sonic answered and pulled me into a side hug.

"Ah, you're one of those gifted smarties, aren't you?" He replied and flashed a grin, one so loathing I wanted to slap it off of him. I didn't know why it just felt unsettling, even being in the same room as him. He reeked of strong, cheap cologne; it smelled so strong that I was getting nauseous. I looked over at Sonic, who genuinely seemed to be enjoying his presence, humor, and personality. I'd much rather have Shadow here than this abhorrent person.

The night felt like it lasted years. He kept hitting on Sonic and even made a few dirty jokes to him, to which Sonic chuckled a bit and reminded him there was a child nearby. He'd flash a smile at me or at Sonic every few minutes. We rarely knew him, but he just acted like he was a long-lost friend from years ago, and until now we have had time to check up on him; thankfully, he isn't. I'd remember such a hideous grin.

"I'm going to the bathroom; stay right here, Tails; I'll be back, okay?" Sonic said as he got up from the booth and walked away. His presence quickly got awkward and tense. "So tell me about yourself; what are your hobbies? Do you like the toy I got you?" He asked and seemed genuinely interested in my answers to his questions.

"Uhm.. I guess I like to make things, sort of like an engineer; I've built planes and many other things. Surprisingly, you knew I liked planes; did Sonic tell you?" I asked, narrowing my eyes a bit while staring him down. I knew what he was trying to do; he was trying to get on good terms with me so he'd fit in quicker. Basically, up his chance of dating my parental figure.

"An engineer, that's cool. I wanted to major in engineering in college, but sadly, I couldn't. I didn't have enough money saved up. You never told me if you liked the toy or not." He said this and rubbed his neck nervously.

"I don't care much for toys. Why should I when I make my own?" I replied. Why was Sonic taking so long? When's he coming back? I already don't like this, and it's bothering me that he won't leave me alone and quit asking questions. He was annoying me, and my mood was quickly being ruined.

"Ah, I was like that too when I was younger. It was sadly just a phase; I'm sure you too will pass your phase soon, and you'll care for toys again." He said that, and his sickening grin was shown once again.
