Jeff did his best to concentrate throughout the KinnPorsche fanmeeting concert. It was hard knowing that afterwards, he would be telling Kira that they were soulmates.
What he hoped for most of all was that she would believe him. Just like him 24 hours ago, she probably had no idea that it was possible for her to have another soulmate after her first one died.
He imagined that it would be hard for her to move on and open her heart to someone new. It was obvious that she was dedicated to her first soulmate. However, she had mentioned that they had talked about her moving on and finding happiness again. So, Jeff had hope.
If she managed to be comfortable with the idea of them being soulmates, he was hoping that she would be open to the idea of staying in Thailand. His work was here, and he had a lot of commitments that meant that he wouldn't be able to travel to see her if she went back home. He also realised that this was asking a lot of her.
They hadn't talked about what she didn't for a job, but since she had been travelling for months, he was thinking that either she didn't have one or that it was very flexible. Either way, he did well enough to support them both if she agreed to stay in Thailand with him.
The show went well, but by the time Jeff got backstage his mind was spinning in anticipation. At least he had a little time before Kira joined him to figure out what he was going to say. How do you tell someone whose soulmate died that they have another one and you're it?
Soon enough they were face to face again and Jeff was both excited and afraid of what could happen next.
"Thank you so much. The VIP section was amazing! You didn't need to do that though. I'm just a fan you met yesterday."
"You're not just a fan. Kira..."
He gestured for them to sit down before continuing.
"There's reason I came to talk to you after the show yesterday, why I took you back to your hotel, why I brought you backstage today."
"Yeah, that all was a little odd. Why - what's the reason?"
"As I was leaving my concert yesterday, I was pulled to stay. I had a feeling so strong that I had no doubts as to what it meant."
Jeff looked for any hint that Kira had caught on to where he was going, but of course, for her, meeting her soulmate wasn't even in the realm of possibilities.
He took a deep breath and held back from reaching out and holding her hands.
"Kira, you're my soulmate."
"I - Jeff, I already - that's not possible."
"I thought that too. When you told me that you had already met your soulmate, I was so confused, but it is possible. Milo knows someone whose soulmate died, and they met their second soulmate."
"Really?"
"Yes. I know this is a lot to take in, but I couldn't risk letting you slip through my fingers."
"I don't know - how can I -"
"I know this must be hard on you, but I wouldn't be telling you this if I wasn't sure."
Jeff held out his hand and after a moment's hesitation, Kira took it.
The hum of the bond grew stronger when they touched, and Jeff's shoulders dropped as a wash of peace flooded through him. He basked in it a moment before looking at Kira to see if she was feeling it too.
She was staring down at their joined hands with a look that he couldn't decipher.
"I - I need some time."
"Oh... When do you leave?"
"The day after tomorrow."
"I want you to stay, here, in Thailand, with me."
"But how would I -"
Jeff added his other hand to their joined ones and squeezed reassuringly.
"You can live with me. I can support us or help you find a job. Whatever you want. If you agree to stay, I'll do anything."
"Give me a day to think it over. I'll give you an answer before my flight home."
Kira pulled her hands free and stood up.
Jeff stood up with her and rushed to say one last thing before she left.
"Kira, I understand how hard and confusing this must be for you. If you stay, I promise to do everything in my power to make you happy."
The last thing he saw of his soulmate was a small smile before she walked out of the room.
