"Kira, I understand how hard and confusing this must be for you. If you stay, I promise to do everything in my power to make you happy."
It was one of the sweetest things she had ever heard, and she knew how genuine Jeff was being. However, a part of her just couldn't believe that this was real. She had met her soulmate, had a life with him, and watched him die. How could she have another? Could she go through that again? The good, and the bad?
"Kira?"
She looked up to see Mile approaching her and she tensed thinking that he would ask questions.
"I have a car to take you to your hotel."
"I, um, thank you."
"You're welcome."
The model led her to the backstage exit before bidding her goodbye.
"It was nice to meet you, Kira. Here's my card, feel free to give me a call if you need anything."
The journey home was a blur. Her thoughts were all over the place.
She had one day before she was supposed to get a flight home. One day to decide whether Jeff was worth staying for. She felt bad just thinking it. Of course, Jeff was worth it. He was kind, caring, and obviously talented. For most, it would seem like a simple choice.
Kira was starting to regret not talking with Jeff for longer before leaving.
I don't have his phone number!
No sooner than she had thought it, a message came through on her phone.
"This is my number. -Jeff"
She debated calling him but decided not to, at least for tonight. Despite being exhausted, Kira lay in bed for hours unable to sleep, her mind a mess of thoughts and memories.
The next day she went for a walk around Bangkok. She wasn't headed anywhere specific. She just wanted to walk and think and imagine.
Kira pictured herself living here. Would she like it? Could it feel like home? How about fitting in and learning the language? There were so many things to think about if she was going to move to the other side of the world.
She reached the park, the same one she had been in just two days ago when she had won the ticket to Jeff's concert and sat on a bench.
Out of her bag, Kira pulled out the card Mile had given her last night and typed his number into her phone. She bit her lip as she waited for him to pick up her call.
"Hello?"
"Hello, Mile. It's Kira."
"Kira? Hello, what can I do for you?"
"I wanted - needed to ask you something?"
"Of course. Go ahead."
"Jeff mentioned you have a friend who found another soulmate after their first one... died. Is that true?"
"It is. It was very surprising, but they are happy. They felt very lucky to have a second chance."
"I see. Thank you."
"Kira? This might be out of place, coming from me since Jeff is my friend, but although this is a second chance for you, it's his first. You are Jeff's first soulmate."
"I understand. It's just a lot to process."
"If there's anything else I can do just ask."
"I will. Thank you. Goodbye."
"Goodbye."
Kira knew Mile didn't mean it that was, but she felt like a bad person. If she went back home she would be denying Jeff his soulmate, a chance at love, and risking him getting ill. However, she was old enough to know that she couldn't ignore her own feelings for the sake of his. She needed to be ready and they had time to figure things out.The next morning, she went to the airport, but when she arrived, she found herself unable to take that final step. The thought of boarding the flight, of leaving behind the possibility of something more with Jeff, was too daunting to bear. At the very least, she needed to know for certain that they were soulmates. She needed to see him again before she left.
Taking out her phone she sent a message before heading to find a taxi.
"Mile, what's Jeff's address?"
