One would never think that there would be a royal wedding soon because the people in the Grande Palace weren't nervous that something might go wrong but they were worried that something disastrous might happen. The shu delegation had been invited and they would come but nobody knew who would come. Aneela was concerned about Ximen coming alone but Nikolai was sure Makhi would attend as well. She won't miss out on this.

"It would be another risk if they both would come," Nadia noted concerned. "We should call more Grisha to attend as masked guests if things go wrong."

Zoya looked over to Adrik. "Can you take care of this?"

"Of course."

"Soldiers are already doubled," Tamar reported. "And we have outposts who are tracking every little move outside the palace walls in a ratio of ten kilometres around the Grande Palace."

"The guards inside are prepared as well," Tolya noted. "The servants, too. They all know the protocols and are demanded to act if they see or hear anything suspicious during the festivities."

Genya took a deep, worried breath, but nodded pleased. "Sounds like everything is under control for now."

"This is too easy ..." Zoya mumbled. "He tried to get at us once and since then, we haven't heard anything. Why hasn't he tried to murder us, yet? It has been some time since our 'meeting' at the boarder."

"Well, one might think that not everybody is capable of murder, Zoya." Nikolai shrugged.

Kheru shrugged. "Ximen is."

Aneela shot her an alarmed look. "What?"

"He once killed a guard who beat him at chess. The poor man was about to say 'Check Mate' when my brother slid his throat and is still bragging about being undefeated because the soldier couldn't finish the phrase before he died, so Ximen technically never lost to him."

"It won't come to that," Zoya huffed. "Trust me. If he does anything, I'll snap him in half and then deal with Makhi. There is no way they will get a win on this – especially not at a royal wedding."

Although the Queen's promise was certain, the mood in the Grande Palace remained tense. Genya was debating whether to uninvite the shu or if this would be just another invitation for war. As the head of the organisation, she had her hands full with everything and was always seen storming around, giving orders and trying not to lose her mind over decorations, speeches and shus.

Nadia feared another attack and her brother was slowly but surely preparing the Grisha for a supposed fight that might come on the wedding day. Tolya and Tamar were getting the palace grounds ready and seeked out any troubles that might come their way.
