Chapter 10

" SLYTHERIN! "

The hat shouted its decision after just barely brushing the top of his head. Hayden smirked, standing and walking gracefully to the green and silver table.

Most of the Great Hall's eyes were on him, curious about the new "transfer" student.

Blue eyes twinkled dangerously at his back, but he ignored the headmaster and sat down far away from Draco. He ignored the speech of the headmaster, and the introduction of the newest teacher — a round, pink woman, and she nearly looked like a toad with that horrid face — instead filling his plate with the least greasy things he could find.

"Hello," someone sat next to him, and he saw a nice-looking blonde girl smiling there. "You looked lonely." Hayden raised an eyebrow, snorting.

"I'm not lonely ," he defended, starting to eat the steak on his plate. "I'm just alone."

"Mhm," she hummed, pulling a roast potato from the center of the table. "I'm Luna, Luna Lovegood. Of course, I know who you are, Hayden." The teen looked at her strangely as she poked the potato with her fork.

"It's nice to meet you...Lovegood," he muttered, his gaze drifting down to her Ravenclaw robes. "You're in Ravenclaw?"

"Yup," she smiled, brushing her hair behind her ear. She had radishes dangling from her earrings. "But I don't really fit there, according to the others in my dorm. They call me Looney Lovegood. It's not very nice."

"No," Hayden murmured, studying her closely. "It's not."

"Gaunt!" Malfoy called, snickering with his friends as he smirked at Hayden. "Sitting with the Nargle girl, are we?"

Hayden sighed, raising one eyebrow at him and shooting him his best impression of his father's unimpressed glare.

Malfoy's face faltered, and he swallowed nervously.

"I'm so sorry that you have to deal with things such as that, Lovegood," Hayden turned back to Luna, and she smiled.

"Luna."

"Hm?"

"Call me Luna," she insisted, and he nodded. "We'll be good friends, Hayden. I just know."
