Severus sucked in a breath, as did several others, when the Dark Lord introduced the new, smaller figure beside him as his second in command.

Bellatrix seemed unbothered, shockingly quiet.

The newcomer knelt in front of Voldemort, and the Dark Lord placed a hand on his head, and it was shocking how much the man—or boy? But surely the Dark Lord wouldn't recruit so young?—relaxed.

Severus watched in interest as Voldemort kept praising the mysterious Death Eater, going on about how he was worth much more than "all of them combined" and such. If Severus hadn't known that his Lord was immune to such things, he would accuse the newcomer of dosing Voldemort with Amortentia.

"Rise," he ordered quietly, softer than ever before. The boy—for surely no man could be so slight—obeyed effortlessly, and Voldemort smiled. "You have been faithful for many years now, I think it is only right that you are my most trusted." The boy's shoulders trembled slightly as he took in a shaky breath, and he held his bare left arm out at his Lord's request.

"Tonight," The Dark Lord purred, tracing the Dark Mark on the boy's skin. "Tonight is the night that marks our first actions against the Light side."
