Voldemort looked over at the bedpost, furrowing his brows. He could've sworn he had just seen it move...He shrugged it off, sighing and returning to his book.
He nearly jumped out of his skin when a tiny, cool something was placed in the crook of his elbow. He looked down, eyes wide, to find a tired little sunbeam snake. It had rested its head on his arm, gazing up at him with bright green eyes.
Voldemort smiled.
" I am proud of you, " he said quietly, and Hayden shifted next to him. "Did you receive another form?"
"Yes," Hayden sighed, resting his head on his father's shoulder. "I am unfamiliar with the species, however. It is a bird." Voldemort nodded, closing the book in his hands.
"Congratulations," he smiled, tangling his fingers in his son's hair. Hayden smiled, leaning into him and sliding his legs under the warm sheets.
"Thank you, father." He sighed contentedly, closing his eyes as Voldemort started to read again.
