LYCANTHROPYBecause it's Friday- my chemistry class had us do labs for the first time. When the teacher told us to get in groups guess who's goofy ass ran to my side?
"I don't know anything about chemistry." I lied as I slid the goggles over my eyes.
"Don't worry I know exactly, what I'm doing." Stiles slips on the blue gloves.
He goes to grab the clear bottle of water to pour in the tub and grab his wrist stopping him.
"Stiles don't do that." My eyes widen as I set it down.
"We have to use a spoon." I grab the spoon that the teacher had already set on the table with the other tools and hand it to him.
"Yeah I don't know anything." He cleared his throat as he grabbed the spoon.
"And I read the lab last night." I tap on the bin filled with dry ice and he went in a scooped a chunk of it using the spoon.
"Smaller."
He dropped the chunk back in and scooped the perfect size of dry ice- enough to fill the teaspoon.
I take the spoon from him, "Goggles." I gesture to his on his forehead. He fumbled his hands over them and pulled them down to shield his eyes.
"When we add the dry ice to the water we see the formation of carbonic acid. The more the ice melts the more co2 dissolves creating the gas we see." I pull the glass bowl filled with a small amount of water towards us and look up at Stiles who was staring at me in amusement.
"Go ahead." I step back and watch him drop the small piece of dry ice in the bowl.
I look over at all the other labs and see the gas overflow for all the other tables.
I look at ours and there gas began to rise quickly but stopped right at the edge of the bowl. The perfect amount to not make a mess.
"You guys read the lab." The teacher smiles and marks down something on his clipboard.
"Clean up." He nods.
We went and poured the gas into a bin that the teacher had told us to earlier in class. We put the glasses where they belong in the cabinet, the goggles in the goggles cabinet. We threw our gloves away and the teacher had told us "There's only ten minutes left you two are dismissed."
Suddenly we were walking through the hallway and Stiles had snatched the AP economics textbook from my hands.
"You wanna skip next class?" A mischievous look spread across his face.
"Yeah okay." I nod.
"Okay." He smiles.
He speeds up a bit walking down the hall.
"Come on." He switches the book to his left hand and holds his right hand out.
I grab it and we interlock fingers as I follow him into- I don't know I've only been to my side of the school the side with all my classes.
"You know we have lacrosse together in seventh but you haven't been going like at all." He brings up.
"I was told that he doesn't check who's in class. I've gotten present and participation grades everyday." I brag.
"You're lucky- he hates my guts, But if you wanted to know where we meet it's out here." He pushes open one of the double doors leading to the outside.
I see the lacrosse field for the first time, when I've waited for Scott I would just be in the library. We made our way towards it but on the side to where the bleachers were.
"Twenty percent." I say as I look up at all the sharpied names written under the bleachers.
"Twenty percent." he nods as he sits on the bench that was most likely brought into there by students.
"That's not what I brought you here for."
I sit beside him, placing my bag on the floor.
"Yeah I know."
-
"We went back to the woods and we didn't find the dead body Scott saw." Stiles pulls out a book from his backpack.
"What did you find?" I place my hand on the leather I cased book, it seemed to old and the engravings looked so cool.
"Half a dead wolf."
"Ew." I look down at the butt end of my blunt between my fingers.
"That is definitely gone." Stiles flicks it from my hand and it landed on the ground.
"We found it digging up this flower and it was unraveling in this spiral that was connected to it." He opened the book to a page that already had a book mark in it, there were many post it notes with translations.
I lay my head on his shoulder as he runs his finger over the depicted spiral.
"I don't know about the spiral thing but the flower is definitely wolfsbane."
"Mmm the famous monkshood part of the ranunculus family." I point at the flower drawing.
"You. Are so smart." He takes a deep breath out, ever since my head laid on his shoulder it felt like he's been holding his breath.
"My dad was obsessed with old werewolf movies and we liked to do research and create more lore around our favorite plots." I smile.
"The wolf man?"
"Lon Chaney Junior and Claude Rains? They absolutely changed my life." I took my head off of his shoulders and smiled big, remembering the first time I watched the movie with my dad.
"Scott's never seen it, thank god I know someone who's lived." He chuckled.
"Ooo we should have a movie night." I grab the book from his hands and flipped the page.
"Old French." I loved old books I loved languages and trying to learn what they say.
"Gasp werewolves." I enthused as I saw inked drawings of very ugly werewolf creatures.
"Do we think this body is connected to Jackson's death?" I question.quand la nuit tombe et que la lune est haute, assurez-vous de vous préparer pour la nuit
"You don't have this fully translated." I point out.
Moon high something about the night
"I have a translator."
"You have an old French translator?"
"Mhm" I nod, grabbing my phone and looking through the list.
"Ah yeah Old French Translator Chad." I pretend to read yet Chad was under Meeks I hit the call button and put it on speaker.
"Now way it's Lena." He gasped immediately answering the call.
"Meeks I need a translator." I look down at the book preparing to read it.
"Woah no hi? No hello? You haven't even texted me since you got there."
I scrunch my face up and look at Stiles.
"Hi Meeks miss you so very much and let's not forget the last time we saw each other."
"Shit." He pauses.
"I forgot, I didn't even reach out to you either. Fuck now I feel bad."
"I need a translator." I repeat so he didn't keep talking about our relationship.
"Yeah I'll shut up, Go ahead."
"quand la nuit tombe et que la lune est haute, assurez-vous de vous préparer pour la nuit." I have only taken one French class but I sounded pretty damn good at pronouncing the words.
He takes a few moments and you hear him scribble something down.
"When night falls and the moon is high, make sure to prepare for the night."
"Cool thanks bye." I hang up cutting him off from what else he was about to say.
"Werewolves!" I exclaimed.
"Guess we have to watch out for Scott huh?" He jokes- at least I think he is.
"He did get bit." I stopped and thought about it.
"Are werewolves real?"
"You live with him has he been acting differently?" I hand him back the book and think.
"I don't really know his normal, I barely know him like at all actually. He has been hanging out with Allison a lot more." I shrug.
"He hasn't really been talking to me as much but I just thought it was because he was busy adjusting to- well you."
