The boys weren't progressing any further as they stood inside the staff room.
Boruto's 'little' stunt meant that half of the instructors were putting a damaged train on its rails, and the other throwing disappointed sighs towards the two.
"Why even bother showing your face around here?" A purple haired female instructor named Anko hissed. "It's bad enough that you pulled over a stunt on the first day of school. You're lucky no one got hurt, or else your father would have been hot on your tail."
Boruto looked down. He knew he was going to get chewed out eventually, but he didn't want it to be from a senior staff member at the Academy. The more an adult was closer to his father l, the more their words weighed heavy on his heart.
As Boruto was being ripped a new one, Shikadai took it as the perfect distraction to sneak a peek to their teachers desk only to see that neither she nor the scrolls were to be seen.
"Boys will be boys, so don't be so hard on the kid," a familiar voice stepped in to defend him.
Surprised, the two boys turned behind them to see a tall, brown haired man enter the room with a silly grin.
Boruto's eyes went wide with hope. His 'Big Brother' by bond, Konohamuru always had a way with timing.
"Konohamuru," Anko's voice boomed. "You of all people should know how not to take advantage of the privileges of being related to a Hokage."
"Yet my grandfather still managed to spoil me rotten Auntie," he teased, causing the older woman to be taken back and cross her arms to end the little interaction they had.
With a slight laugh, he dismissed the tension. Shikadai, by then, had shuffled back to his friend's side just in time for the older man to place each of his hands on one of the boys' shoulders and led them out the door.
"Come on, you two. Don't give the instructors a hard time."
As soon as the door closed behind them, Konohamuru's breath of relief calmed the pair down before he whacked Boruto on the head with his hand.
"Just what were you thinking?" He harshly whispered.
"Yeah, what were you thinking?" Shikadai questioned as he turned to Boruto. "Don't just stand there."
The blonde gave the two an apologetic look.
"It sounded fun at the time, I guess, "he shrugged before watching Shikadai place his hands behind his head.
"Forget it. There was nothing on her desk, so we gotta assume she hid it elsewhere."
"So where to next?"
The young boys feel into shallow thoughts before Konohamuru lets out a little cough.
"Considering how I saved you from an ear bleeding, would you mind telling me what you are up to," he inquired.
"We are trying to get clues as to where Sensei Tenten would have hidden any scrolls. It's for our presidential election," Shiva explained.
The older man nodded.
"Well, you definitely won't find any scrolls here. Today was practically her first day on the job, so of course, you won't find anything on her desk.
Boruto and Shikadai sigh in unison.
"Hey, hey, it's not over yet. She's a skilled kunoichi, but a really simple-minded person, " he said, leaning in closer. "You didn't hear this from me, but she mostly hangs out by a little place downtown called The Drinking Rock."
If their homeroom teacher was as simple-mind as he said, then she wouldn't even attempt to hide the scrolls in the first place. Shikadai narrowed his eyes before hitting his fist against his palm.
"That's it! Come on," he said in excitement as he led the way down the hallway.
Before Boruto could sprint after him, Konohamuru grabbed his arm.
"When you're done, meet me by the old ramen shop across the card shop. There's something I wanna give you."
He let go of his arm and waved him good luck.
Having caught up to the ponytailed boy, he felt his nerves hitch up. Why would Konohamuru do that? Hopefully, he wouldn't find himself in too much trouble afterward.
They exited the school and headed towards the subway station.
"You better not be thinking of derailing this one," Shikadai huffed as they boarded the vehicle, eliciting a nervous grin from Boruto.
"So what's the plan," Boruto asks as he surveys the crowd.
"If Tenten is the simplest jonin as Konohamuru suggests, then she didn't hide the scrolls at all. She just put them away in her bag."
"So we fight her for them?" The blonde raises his eyebrow.
"Or we could sneak them out of her bag without her noticing. We can't give of the element of surprise when we meet her. Do you still remember the transformation jutsu?"
"Like Big Bro ever skipped up on the chance of teaching us such an elementary trick," Boruto rolled his eyes. "Even my clones can do it."
"That's an even better idea," Shikadai rubbed his chin. "We can get up close to her with a transformed clone, and either one of us can grab scrolls and make a run for it."
The two boys grinned at each other as they fist pumped.
This plan is about to be easy. Shikadai could almost taste the power and authority he was going to enforce for the entire year.
