The Mentor is my baby because it's the first story I started AND completed. It successfully made it out of the dark hole of my google drive where all my other stories die a slow and painful death and for that, I will always cherish it.
Not only did I finally finish my first story when I finished The Mentor, but I gained the courage to hit the Publish button at the top of the page that always taunted me. I swear, I used to see that button in my nightmares laughing and pointing at me while calling me a coward. Being an author has always been something I wanted to work towards but taking those steps always terrified me because I didn't think people would ever like my ideas. As I've learned since publishing a few mediocre fanfics under an anonymous username, you don't have to reach everyone and in fact, you never will, so take the small victories and constructive criticism and let them motivate you to improve while you let any hate roll off your shoulders with your head held high.
I love this story because I poured a lot of myself and personal experiences into it, so while this is probably the only rewrite I will do before returning to my original stories outside of the fanfic world, I do believe this is an important thing for me to do. So welcome to my journey of growth. I'm very happy to have you here.
