Carina was consumed by swirling thoughts as she got ready to head to Grey Sloan. There was so much to deal with, but she needed to maintain focus when at the hospital. She knew she would need to talk to Arizona about what had happened.

In a hotel nearby, the pediatrician was also wrestling with a whirlwind of thoughts. She knew it had been a mistake and that she would need to talk to the Italian, and, more importantly, prepare to face her wife Callie's wrath upon returning to New York. But she would tackle one thing at a time.

A few hours later, Carina arrived at Grey Sloan by taxi, having left her car at the hospital after a night of heavy drinking at Joe's bar. She made her way to her office, dropping her things and preparing to start another 24-hour shift. It was exhausting on its own, but when combined with the hangover from the previous night and the whirlwind of thoughts racing through her mind, it felt particularly challenging.

While Carina was still in her office, Bailey arrived to speak with her.

— DeLuca, I came to check on the progress of your study with Arizona on Mrs. Morgan's case.

— Yesterday, we were examining how the procedure would be performed, but we'll need Amelia's assistance to perform the surgery since it involves a tumor on the fetus's spine. For now, we don't have a clear view of what we'll find, but we're exploring a less invasive way to visualize the tumor — Carina responded in a somewhat automatic manner. It was as if her body were present, but her mind was elsewhere.

— Is everything alright? — Bailey noticed that the head of gynecology seemed preoccupied.

Carina took a deep breath, ran her hands through her hair, and then responded. She needed to confide in someone, and Bailey, being not only her superior but also her friend, was a good choice.

— No... it's not — she admitted.

— Maya again?

— Among other things... in addition to my marriage being a mess, there's another detail that could make everything worse. Last night, I was at Joe's bar with Arizona, and Maya showed up. When she saw us, she caused a scene, insinuating that Arizona and I were getting involved, and we ended up arguing. Arizona accompanied me to the hotel where I'm staying, and we ended up drinking too much...

Before Carina could finish recounting the events, Bailey interrupted her with a raised hand.

— You don't need to finish telling me... I already know what happened. Arizona informed me about her issue with Torres. I don't know what to do with you two.

Bailey grew furious, pacing around Carina's office.

— You're both in a marriage crisis and let yourselves get carried away in a moment of weakness. I can't wait to see what will happen when Maya and Torres find out about this indiscretion.

Carina didn't particularly want to hear a sermon, but she knew she deserved it for her lapse in judgment.

— Now, Carina, what do you intend to do? — Bailey asked.

— I don't know... — Carina replied, covering her face with her hands. — After everything I've been through with Maya, I'm considering asking for a divorce. I don't know if she'll improve, not without professional help. And now, this indiscretion with Arizona, I feel like I've taken revenge for what Maya did to me when she slept with Jack. But I didn't intend to get back at her or cause her any pain, even though she has caused me a lot of suffering. At some point, I'll need to talk to her about this, but not now. She's already very upset just from the insinuation, and if she finds out I spent the night with Arizona, it'll be worse.

— Sort out this mess and I hope it doesn't interfere with your work. I need you both to stay focused on Mrs. Morgan's surgery. — Bailey responded authoritatively, and Carina simply nodded. The day had barely begun, and the Italian already felt exhausted.
