∾ Chapter 11 ∾

Maya spent the day thoughtful after learning that Carina was reconsidering going to Italy. Carina knew that Maya needed her space to think about everything. Carina needed to talk with Jo and Altman about her decision; she needed to vent and be sure that she was making the right choice for herself and for Maya.

Carina: Girls, I need to talk and have a drink. Shall we meet at Joe?

Jo Wilson: Let's go! My shift ends in 2 hours.

Teddy Altman: I'll ask Hunt to pick up the kids from daycare and I'll meet you all at the bar.

Maya saw Carina getting ready to go out and decided to ask where she was going.

— Where are you going?

— I'm going to meet up with Jo and Teddy at Joe's. — Carina replied while putting on her boots.

— Ok... — was all Maya could manage to say.

Carina felt a knot in her stomach and a mix of anxiety and uncertainty as the meeting approached. After all, she had much to share, and these friends meant a lot to her.

— A glass of white wine, please. — Carina ordered at the counter before sitting down with Jo and Altman.

— Thank you for coming, girls. I really need to talk about some things. — Carina said as soon as she sat at the table.

— Of course, Carina. We're here for you, no matter what happens. — Jo replied with a supportive smile.

Carina began to recount recent events, from the dramatic fire at the hospital to the crucial happenings that had occurred in the last few hours. She shared the intense night she had spent with Maya and the meaningful conversation she had with the firefighter that very morning, where she had expressed her indecision regarding the trip to Italy and her conflicting feelings.

— I don't know what to do, girls. I'm torn between staying in Seattle, trying to fix things with Maya and being by her side during her treatment, or going to Italy, where my family is and where everything is more familiar. — Carina spoke sincerely, her eyes full of emotion.

— It's an incredibly difficult decision, Carina. I understand that you're feeling lost. — Jo spoke empathetically.

— Remember that you'll only be there for a few days. You yourself said that this will be good for you and Maya so that you can take care of yourselves individually and then resume your relationship. — Teddy added.

Carina thanked her friends for listening to her worries and shared her gratitude for having them in her life. She knew that the path ahead was full of challenges, but with the support and understanding of Teddy and Jo, she was beginning to find clarity amid the turbulence of her emotions and relationship.

Maya and Carina were standing side by side at the airport, the tension in the air was palpable. Carina took the initiative to talk about the decision they had made.

— Maya, I want you to know that deciding to go to Italy for a while doesn't mean I'm giving up on us, on our marriage, or on our history together. It's exactly the opposite. — Carina spoke in a soft voice.

Maya looked at Carina, her eyes showing a mix of emotions, but mainly understanding.

— I understand, Carina. I know this journey is important to you, and I want you to reconnect with your roots and your family. I don't want to be the reason you postpone this indefinitely.
