You are assigned one emotion and must write a poem centered around it, but with a subject that is not typically associated with said emotion.
My assigned emotion: Fear.

With each passing roll of the thunderous waves
my mind slips further and further down into the abyss,
wailing hungrily beneath the insatiable swaying of the sea.
Little children kick up sand behind them
and jump into the waves,
jumping—
drowning?—
wading further into the beckoning abyss.
My ribs crack as my lungs heave.
My hands run slick with blood
as I scramble across the rocks,
backing away,
escaping,
from the screaming kids crying
and the beckoning abyss.
And the sun shimmers down from an
endless, suffocating blue sky,
and it smirks as it burns my skin.
Burning alive.
