I don’t know what it is, but werewolves, especially Alphas, seem really insecure. They keep shutting me in rooms. It happened at Haven Pack and it was no different here. No one just seemed to trust I wouldn’t make a grand escape and that I actually planned on doing what I was told. I wasn't stupid. I mean sure, with my experience breaking out of here would be a piece of cake but it wasn't like I had anywhere to go. Better to stay with the Pack who wanted to kill me less, in my books.

And apparently didn’t know who I was.

Yeah, that was a brain teaser.

I’d even told them my name. I’d expected something to click but no. These guys had no clue who I was.

I was beginning to think Nathan had sent round a really ugly picture of me.

My thoughts were interrupted when the door flew open and Jason strolled in. He scanned the room and when his eyes landed on me an odd look crossed his face.

“Where you expecting an army?” he said, a playful grin tugging at his lips.

Frowning, I looked down at myself and yes, realised I had leapt off the bed, stood with my legs apart and my body tense for an attack. All without me even noticing. A normal girl would have blushed but I lowered my arms and arched an eyebrow at him. “What’s with you and not knocking?”

He chuckled, folding his arms.

“Seriously, it’s not difficult.”

Shaking his head, he nodded in the direction of the hallway. I leant to the right, trying to peek around his massive frame to see if that army he was talking about stood in the corridor. Finding nothing, I stared at him in confusion.

“What?”

“We’re going out.”

I shook my head. “No we’re not.”

“Um, yes we are, short stuff.”

I blinked at him, kind of offended. “I’m not short.”

Again he scanned his eyes up and down me like an x-ray machine. To be honest, I felt naked underneath his scrutinising gaze. His eyes could have been lasers I thought I was being judged so severely.

“Comparing to me you are, sweet-pea,” he said with a grin. “And this isn't an invitation. The Alpha wants to see you in his office.”

“Why?”

He sent me a ‘why-the-heck-do-I-care’ look. “Are you going to be difficult if I don’t tell you something?”

“Yes.”

“He’s taking you to Disneyland.”

I snorted and made for the door. “Close enough.”

As Jason led me, I couldn’t help feeling uneasy. What if Shepley had gone against his word and called the Alphas? Who did he call first; Jem or Nathan? Was one of them here for me now or was this something different?

My wolf whined softly inside me, secretly hoping Jem had come to pick us up.

Oh for godsake, I told her, we aren’t some abandoned teenager on the side of the road.

She said nothing, just continued to pine quietly for Jem. As much as I wanted to sympathise for her pain, I couldn’t help being annoyed. Yeah, I got that she loved Jem but she had to understand that he was self-centred jerk who didn’t want us and her constant yearning for him was making me ache like I’d been hit by a pile of bricks.

A sharp jab in my arm brought me back to my sense and I realised we stood outside Shepley’s office. Jason was glaring at me. “Stop spacing out,” he hissed. “It’s creepy.”
