Alice rubbed her hands together, trying to warm them up from the frosty weather that lay just outside of her bedroom window. It was quite a journey walking back home from the quaint little pub she worked at, but it was worth it to see the different views that London had to offer. Her mind flashed through the different types of people who wandered past her, like a film reel playing the newest hit to project onto the cinema screen.

Her tea kept her hands warm as she curled up on the sofa, The Ronettes playing softly in the background as she read. Her roommate, Hannah, was out at work. This meant that Alice could light the candles that gave Hannah a headache and play the music that she didn't appreciate. The atmosphere was like a peaceful blanket that laid over Alice to keep her grounded in these colder months.

Her peace, just as quickly as it started, was interrupted by the sound of the phone that sat near the door. Alice quickly pushed away the couple of blankets that covered her while she nearly tripped over the rug as she tried to reach the phone before it rang off.

Her voice echoed in the hardly decorated hallway as she greeted the unknown caller. She pulled her body closer to the wall so that Hannah could make it past, a bag of food for them both in her hand. Hannah couldn't wait to hear about her friend's phone call.

It didn't take long for Alice to turn to Hannah, a small smile playing on her lips.

"You'll never guess who called."

Alice's shirt was slightly too thin for the weather and her coat was slightly too thick. Her stockings felt like they could fall down any moment and her skirt made her feel slightly insecure about her belly. After a full morning of Hannah giving Alice 'helpful' advice such as what lipstick colour not to wear and how to do a proper handshake, Alice couldn't help but feel slightly ridiculous that she was so willing to take a day off of work just to see her old boss.

Her nerves only grew more as she heard the recognisable clicks of his expensive leather shoes get closer. She took a small breath, trying to slightly slow down her heartbeat, as she turned around to face the door.
