"Why can't we stay indoors? With the fireplace? It is cold," Taehyug sulked, trudging after me through the snow despite his great reluctance.
Two weeks had passed, and the world had turned into the inside of a beautiful snowglobe. The end of December was nearing, and even though my father and I usually celebrated Christmas with the families, this year, he'd allowed me to spend it at the house.
Cosa Nostra had never felt like home for me, despite how most of them men of the family were my father's close friends. I knew spending Christmas day with my servants would be far more magical, and far more cheerful. They lacked the stench of death on them. They were angels to me.
"Oh, stop it," I said, giving the butler's shoulder a light shove. "You love being outside. I promise you, horses are gentle giants."
"Not the ones in Croatia," Taehyung mumbled, reluctantly following after me.
"Hm?"
"Nothing."
I slowed down my steps when I saw none other than Emilio standing by the horses. He was brushing their hair extensively, sighing and grumbling from the cold as he did so.
"Emilio?" Taehyung said, looking the man up and down.
"Yes, he's the stableboy now," I said, adjusting my coat. "That way he won't have to be around the other servants too much."
Taehyung pulled a face, and I nudged him with my elbow. "Act nice. Be glad he hasn't come after you for breaking his arm."
"It is not my fault his bones are weak."
"Master Park," Emilio said as Taehyung and I approached the stables. "Will you be taking Rose for a ride today?"
"Yes," I said, smiling up at the goldenbrown horse as I admired her beauty. "It's time for you to show off those pwetty bows in your hair," I sang with a silly voice.
"I will prepare her," Emilio said. "Just a moment."
The stableboy left to grab a saddle, and Taehyung began to back away step by step.
"Still scared?" I giggled, intertwining our gloved fingers to keep him from escaping.
Taehyung swallowed thickly, and nodded with a shameful expression.
"That's okay," I said, giving the butler a smile as I turned to him. "Just look at me."
I pulled Taehyung in for a passionate kiss, and threw my arms around his neck as we made out in the cold like lovers parting for war. I smiled against the the man's lips, and he chuckled against mine, the both of us soaring high up in the sky with an incredible dopamine rush.
"I... like kissing," Taehyung murmured, before stealing another quick peck. And another. And another.
I giggled and leaned in to give the butler's lips a kitten lick, humming in agreement. "Imagine how good it will feel for you when it's with a girl..."
"She's ready," Emilio said, stealing my attention away.
I turned around and excitedly clapped my hands, before latching on to Rose's rains with a tight grip. "Oh gosh, I haven't ridden in so long... this will be amazing."
I managed to climb on top of the mare's back all by myself and felt right at home once I was comfortably seated in the saddle. "See, Tae? It isn't as bad as--"
"He's gone," Emilio deadpanned when I caught sight of the butler sprinting all the way back to the house. "Once a halfwit, always a halfwit."
I sighed and shook my head in disappointment, though I couldn't be too upset. The butler probably had a good reason not to like horses. He wasn't the type to have irrational fears. "He's not a halfwit," I said sternly, shooting Emilio a glare. "He's wonderful."
