"Doctor Tomlinson! Could you take a look at my patient, room three?"

"Yes sure, I'm coming!" I spun around to go when another nurse rushed towards me.

"Doctor, kid with a headache, fell down the stairs, what should I do?"

I sighed and walked to room three, the nurse walking along. "Get a scan and give them a drip, did you run the basic tests?" She nodded and walked off, but not before a 'thank you dr. Tomlinson!'

"This is Mr. Jones, 51 year old male, dementia and fell walking to his kitchen, stable, blood pressure a bit high and seems to have a broken arm but not sure."

I sat down on the chair next to the bed and stretched out my hand. "Hello mr. Jones, my name is Louis Tomlinson, head neurologist and doctor at the hospital, could you tell me what happened?" I smiled softly as I checked his blood pressure again, the machines next to him beeping loudly.

The man looked at me like he wasn't fully there. "You look just like my grandson, you have beautiful eyes, just like him," he spoke, resting a hand on my arm.

"Well thank you Mr. Jones, how are you feeling? Follow the light with your eyes, please." I moved the light in my hand from side to side, his eyes following the movements.

"Call me Ernest, please," he told me.

I looked at his arm and could tell it was broken at the elbow. "Alright Ernest, you seemed to have taken a nasty fall at home hm?" I turned to one of the nurses. "Wanna get a xray, would you call them and tell them he's coming up? Also a head scan, please."

The girl nodded. "Of course Dr. Tomlinson." She went out of the room and I ran some other tests on him.

"My brother's name is Ernest as well," I said, looking at the man who's lips turned into a smile.

"A name you don't hear often, do you have a son as well? Your spouse must be very happy with such a gentleman like you."

I sighed but still didn't let the smile fall from my face. "Not yet, I'm mostly here, helping people and making sure they're alright."

He pat my shoulder, a single tear rolling down his cheek. "I was the same once, you know? Always busy with work, making sure others were satisfied, but in the process I forgot to ask myself a question, was I doing alright myself? And before I knew it I was diagnosed with dementia and sometimes forget my wife and children."

My smile faltered and I squeezed his hand. "I like to believe you did what was best, don't have regrets, I'm sure they love you just as much as you love them, I can see that." I told him, just looking at him, being finished checking him over.

He shrugged. "Maybe, I love them but I'm gonna die soon anyway, better not have any regrets in the short while I have left to live."

I didn't know what to answer to that, so I just plastered the best smile on my face I could manage that moment and squeezed his hand once again.

"You're a good doctor, Louis," he told me and at that moment the machines started beating, his oxygen levels dropping fast.

I moved up, but felt his hand tightening around my wrist. "Louis?"

Panic took over my whole body but I had to face him, know what he had to say.

"Yes, Ernest?"

He smiled at me, the machines almost so loud we couldn't hear each other.

"Don't have any regrets, do whatever makes you happy, you're a good lad, it was nice spending my last minutes with you," and with that, he closed his eyes, the lock on my hand loosening up.

I jumped up as he flatlined, trying to peform CPR as his heart was giving up.

"Come on, don't give up on me! Anyone, need a hand in here!" Before I knew it my best friend and fellow doctor, Liam stood by my side.

I hadn't noticed when Liam grabbed me by the shoulders, pulling me back.

I fell to the ground, tears in my eyes as I stared at the clock.

Liam knelt down next to me, a hand on my back, rubbing soothing circles. "Time of death, 02:34 A.M."
