Three college students huddle around a bonfire in the depths of Hawkins woods, fuelled by alcohol and the invincible recklessness of youth. The firewood pops and crackles, and the flames shadows spread over the thick bark of trees.'I really don't get this girl stuff,' Daniel speaks over the hissing of the fire.
Gareth's face creases into a confused frown. 'Huh?'
'Are you gay, Daniel?' Oliver smirks.
'No.' Daniel lets his elbows slump on his knees, as he lowers himself towards the ground, reaching for the neck of a half-empty, half-spilled beer bottle, 'But sometimes, maaan ... I wish I was.'
Gareth huffs. 'What the hell are you on about, Dannie?'
'Come on, Gareth,' Daniel raises his hand sporadically, almost flinging the bottle at his friend. He gestures towards the other side of the flames.
'Why does it look like he's casting a spell on you?' Oliver observes, amused.
'Oh no,' Gareth grimaces. 'He's going to curse me. Tell me, Dannie, how will I die?'
'Your head, uhmphh,' Daniel hiccoughs. 'Your head will be crushed. Your brains will splatter everywhere, all over this forest!'
'Fucking hell.' Gareth laughs. 'I guess I'm dying tonight.'
'What about me, Dannie, will I die too?' Oliver jests.
'All of you! All of you, damn you, for making fun of me ... for ... for making fun of my—' Dannie slumps forwards, unable to carry the curse anymore.
'Buckle up, Dannie-boy, come on,' Oliver slaps his own knee. 'There's still a full crate of beer to go through. We can't be going down in the dumps already.'
'We sure can,' Daniel speaks, as if from within himself. 'We damn sure can!'
'Go on then, tell us, what's this about girls, huh?' Oliver teases him.
'Girls ... they just ...they just spill me all over the place.'
'Spill you?' Gareth blinks hard. 'The hell does that mean, man?'
