With a groan, I roll over, pulling the soft blanket up to my chin. The light forces my eyes to blink open, and I nearly jump out of the bed as I see a man lying next to me. My heart quickly settles when I realize it's Wilbur; we both must have fallen asleep during the movie. I admire him for a bit, listening to his soft breathing. Deciding I have to capture this moment, I grab my phone from the nightstand and snap a quick picture of him. Of my boyfriend. The guy that gorgeous Lacy couldn't get in months of knowing him while he wanted me since the second he saw me.
Despite the screen not helping my headache, I scroll through my phone and soon realize I never told Claire and Maddie the big news.
Me: hi ladies. late update, but something big happened last night.
Claire: Oh my God you're pregnant
Maddie: Name it after me!!!!!!
Me: jesus christ no! maybe i just won't tell you guys.
Claire: OKAY IM SORRY
Me: okay whatever. last night Wilbur asked me to be his girlfrienddd 🤭
Maddie: FINALLY HOLY SHIT OH MY GOD I HAVE TO MEET HIM RIGHT NOW
Claire: WAR IS OVER!!!!!!!
I notice Wilbur begin to stir, so I put my phone on silent, deciding to talk to those crazies later. I scoot closer to him, placing a soft kiss on his cheek. His eyes open and a smile immediately spreads across his face.
"Good morning," He mumbles. "My head hurts."
"Me too,"
"I didn't dream about last night, right? Like, you're my girlfriend now, right?"
"Yes," I tell him with a giggle, placing a kiss on his soft lips. "I'm yours,"
"Finally!" He yells out, pulling me into his arms and rolling on top of me. "I can finally show you off."
I rest my forehead against his and kiss him again. "Let's go get breakfast."
"Why can't we stay here forever?"
"Because my head hurts."
He stands from the bed with a dramatic sigh, pulling me up with him. We walk out to the kitchen, Matt and Olivia already at the table, both looking like a mess.
"We should come here more often." I say, grabbing medicine from the cabinet as Wilbur fills up a glass of water. "And maybe enjoy it one night instead of getting drunk."
"That's not happening," Matt says, resting his head on the counter. "Would be nice though."
"So," Olivia smirks, stirring a spoon around in her tea. "You two have a good night?"
"Unlike you two, we just fell asleep to a movie." Wilbur tells her, sitting down at the table next to me.
"You guys heard?" Matt asks.
"The entirety of the United Kingdom heard." I mumble, trying to forget the noises they made last night. "What time are we leaving?"
"We should leave soon." Olivia says. "My parents will be back in a couple of hours, but sometimes they leave earlier than expected. Someone go wake Marie up and we'll leave."
The past two weeks, we've all been too busy with school to go out much. Wilbur and I have been enjoying our new relationship, although we haven't been able to do anything too exciting. We've just been loving each other's presence, which is enough for both of us.
Wilbur's birthday is tomorrow, and we're all heading to Vienna for the weekend to celebrate. He's apparently wanted to go there forever, so we're surprising him. We wanted to go by train because it sounded fun, but then we realized how miserable we would all be for that long, so we're flying instead. We've all got money saved up for this trip, so he better appreciate it.
We all put our bags in Matt's car, excited to pick up Wilbur. We told him we're going to the beach, so he's packed lightly, but Matt secretly packed more of his stuff.
I sit in the back with Wilbur, sharing earbuds with him as he naps. I lightly shake him to wake him up as we've arrived at the airport, all of us getting out of the car.
"Wait, what are we doing here?" Wilbur asks, still groggy from his nap as he rubs his eyes.
We all look at each other with grins. We let Matt be the one to speak up since he is the one who had the idea of this trip.
"Oh, we're not going to the beach." Matt says, placing his hand on Wilbur's shoulder. "We're taking a slight detour to Austria. Vienna, to be specific."
"No way," Wilbur says, a smile erupting on his face. "No way! Are you serious?!"
"We had to do something big for your 18th birthday, Wil." Marie says. "Plus, we've known you since freshman year and haven't even thrown a party for you. We had to do this."
"Hold on, who paid for my plane ticket? And the hotel stuff or whatever? I don't want it for free, I-"
"Shush," I tell him. "We all covered it. Don't worry."
"And if you try to pay us, we will kill you." Olivia says. "Now let's go, I don't want to board the plane late."
After what seems like forever, we make it onto the plane. The flight won't be too long, but Wilbur still pulls up a movie for us to watch. I loop my arm through his and lean against him, his head resting on mine.
As we watch the movie, I intertwine my fingers with his. I run circles with my thumb over his delicate skin, and suddenly it hits me. It hits me for the first time in awhile. In three months, I will leave. I will be an ocean away.
Why am I doing this to myself? Why am I letting myself fall for a boy when we know the deadline? We haven't discussed what's gonna happen. I can't stay, he can't leave.
"You okay?" I hear him whisper as he pulls the earbud out of my ear.
I turn to face him and try to nod, but instead feel my face turn red and twist up. I don't want to cry on this plane, but I'm damn close to doing so.
"I don't want to leave you," I whisper, begging my tears to stay back.
Wilbur sighs and pauses the movie. He plants a kiss on my cheek. "I don't want you to leave, either. But maybe it can only be half a year. Maybe I can go to New York for school. As far as I'm concerned, I'm not planning on breaking up when you move back. We'll be okay, no matter what happens. Every relationship has tough moments. We'll be alright,"
I grin up at him, in love with his words. I've known him for a month, but I'm obsessed. He's just perfect. His words never hurt me, or intend to hurt me.
"We'll be alright," I repeat, connecting our lips. After his little speech, I could kiss him for hours and hours, but decide to have to respect everyone else on the plane. I pull away and lean against him again, letting my heart settle down as he continues our movie.
