Heatwave and Quickshadow Flamezer have just moved to Fort Worth Texas. They have a new house and everything. They are looking forward to starting their new lives here. They are very happy right now because they were expecting their first baby.

Heatwave works as a firefighter and he is good at his job. He is very brave and strong. He is a good husband. He is looking forward to teaching their child about fire safety.

Quickshadow is a pediatric nurse who just stared to work at Cook Children's Hospital. She works in the oncology unit.

Then many months later on November 7th their son was born. They named him Hot shot. He was very healthy baby.

They brought him home and took good care of him. They watched him as he grew. Hot shot was soon able to crawl, then walk, and talk.

Hot shot was becoming very active as he grew. He really loved to run, jump, climb and play. He enjoyed to play catch with balls. He enjoyed kicking balls too. He loved to ride his trike. He loved sports too.

Hot shot was a very healthy child. It made both Heatwave and Quickshadow happy to have such a wonderful and healthy child. They didn't think things would ever go wrong.

However things were soon going to take a turn and it wasn't going to be easy either.

It was shortly after Hot shot turned five years old.

Hot shot wasn't feeling too good today and it was the day after his birthday. His left ankle was hurting. It was hurting a lot too. He was limping a bit as well.

As the days passed Hot shot continued to feel unwell. He still had a sore ankle and was limping badly. He had a fever too. There was even a lump on his ankle. He felt just terrible.

"Mummy I don't feel good," Hot shot said.

Quickshadow and Heatwave were both very concerned about Hot shot. They were worried about him. So they called his pediatrician Dr. Lewis.

Dr. Lewis listened to the symptoms they described over the phone. He was concerned. "Take Hot shot to Cook Children's Hospital, he needs to see a pediatric oncologist," Dr. Lewis said.

"I understand," Quickshadow said and hung up. "We need to take Hot shot to Cook Children's Hospital to the oncology clinic to get some tests done with a pediatric oncologist," she said.

"Okay," Heatwave said.

"Hot shot we need to get going," Quickshadow said.

"Can I bring Roxy?" Hot shot asked holding up his plush rhino.

"Of course you can," Quickshadow said.

Hot shot got buckled up in his car seat. Then they headed to Cook Children's Hospital. Hot shot was kind of nervous to say the least. His ankle was hurting really bad. He was squeezing Roxy tight.

"Roxy doesn't feel good either," Hot shot said.

"Why doesn't Roxy feel good?" Quickshadow asked. Being a pediatric nurse she understood that children sometimes associate how they are feeling with their toys. She also knew they sometimes said their toys felt the same way they did. She also knew they said their toys had the same injury, disability or illness. It was one of the ways kids communicate what they are thinking and feeling and how they cope.

"Roxy says her ankle hurts and she has a fever," Hot shot said.

"Just like you?" Quickshadow asked.

"Yes," Hot shot said.

They made it to Cook children's hospital. Hot shot saw their was a dragon out front. The dragon looked happy and friendly. Hot shot waved at the dragon. They made to the parking garage. They found a space and parked. Hot shot got out of his car seat. He was holding Roxy tight and he was nervous. He saw his father holding a bag. He remembers his father packing it with his things, his clothes, a few toys and games. His father told him there was a chance he might need to stay at the hospital so the bag was just in case.
