Veronica's POV

It seemed like hours since Uncle Diego and Miguel left. After they left Abuelo just went to his study, leaving me in the living room.

"Marcoooooo" I whined

"I'm coming, Diabla" He chuckled.

After 5 minutes we got to my room, I quickly say thank you, and shut my door.

I lie down on my bed upside down, my feet dangling in the air, and my head nearly touching the ground.

I'm so bored, there's nothing to do, I haven't even got a phone.

Unlike Miguel, Of course Miguel has a phone.

I decide to read, and I pick out 'La sombra del viento.'

'La sombra del viento' is a novel written by Spanish author Carlos Ruiz Zafón. Set in Barcelona during the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War, the story follows a young boy named Daniel Sempere who discovers a mysterious book called "The Shadow of the Wind" by an unknown author named Julián Carax.

The novel begins in 1945 when Daniel is just ten years old. His father takes him to the Cemetery of Forgotten Books, a secret library where forgotten and abandoned books are preserved. Daniel is allowed to choose one book to keep, and he selects "The Shadow of the Wind." Intrigued by the story, he becomes determined to learn more about the author and his other works.

As Daniel delves into Carax's life, he uncovers a series of dark secrets and mysteries. He discovers that someone has been systematically destroying all of Carax's books.

Gosh, I'm so smart, but I think that's enough of that.

I check the time on the clock on my wall

8:32

You know what? I'm gonna make myself a cup of tea, because why not.

I exit my room and head for the kitchen, but on the way to the kitchen I can hear screaming echoing through the mansion, coming from Abuelo's study.

The hell?

I quietly lurk closer to the door, and hear three different voices, I crept closer to the door only to see three random men.

I look around, thousands of my walls are up. Then I freeze. Three scary tall dark-haired men are screaming at my Abuelo. They are all wearing rich fancy black suits.

Abuelo is not even doing anything, he is just smirking while they scream at him.

I flinch, when I see the older man in the middle kicks the table and screams in frustration, and as expected, Abuelo is just sitting there comfortably sipping on his scotch, while all three of the scary looking men look ready to pounce on Abuelo.

The next thing happens so quickly, the middle man kicks his fit into Abuelo's chest, causing Abuelo to fall backwards on his chair and wince in pain. I'm frozen, I can't move, a tear sheds from the corner of my eye.

Where the fuck are the guards?!

The man in middle places his left shoe on Abuelo's chest before pressing down hard, making it challenging to breath, and for the first time, I hear the middleman speak.

"Give us my daughter or the Golden Guns, your choice, Alessandro."

Abuelo just Mutters a 'never' before the guy on the right punches him in the nose, and there is an echoing crunch going throughout my ears.

Blood is gushing out of Abuelo's nose, I can't move, I struggle to hold back a cry, before the man in the middle speaks again.

"One last chance, Alessandro, Where. Is. She?" He asks angrily.

Abuelo just spits on his shoe.

Chuckling to himself the middle man signals the man on the left to get something.

What is he getting?

I hear a click.

"Addio, figlio di puttana." the middle man says, before there's a loud Bang that seems like it silents the whole Mansion.

You could hear a pin drop.

No noise.

No screams.

Just silence.

I'm in shock, and I peek through the crack in the door once more, But my eyes suddenly make contact with My Abuelos.

His eyes are cold.

His eyes are dark.

He's dead.

There's a bloody hole in the middle of his forehead.

My Abuelo is Dead.
