Dearest Tyler,
I honestly don't know if this letter will ever reach you, but surely, I am writing this on the same day of your marriage. It's been a few years and yet, I still think about the times we were together, and as I tried to scan every memory we shared, I realized that I had been selfish all along. I was too focused on my pain. I was too focused on my traumas. I was so self-absorbed that I never left a room for your pain. It took me a while to understand what you meant, but I am grateful that you said it brutally honestly. You said it with no chaser on. You said it without using the softest words, that would only comfort me, and would eventually prolong my heartaches.
After all, you did the right thing. Perhaps your outrage stemmed from the fact that I assumed I would be the one you married. After that proposal, I thought I had won a life. But I was so excited that once again, I never realized you have your pains too.
Somehow, I wanted to share with you that I met my dad on my 30th birthday. He wanted me to welcome him back, which I refused because I am already okay and survived a life without him. And that's why I wrote these things: If I managed to forgive him for the main cause of my fears, how come I can't forgive someone who also helped me forget my pain while we were still young, happy, and in love?
Thanks for everything, Tyler. I am not sure if this letter will ever reach you, but writing this has renewed me. Writing this made me feel more at ease and settled. It's like a closure to me, from the past that contained both our happy and sad memories.
I will never forget you, surely. But I won't be that prick that will bother you from having a happy life with her. I hope that she will love you too, more than I could ever do, and maybe that's what will put me at greater relief because it'll be worth all the heartaches I endured.
Congratulations on your wedding. Stay happy and never regret your decisions. Keep loving because that's where you're best at.
An old friend,
Sash
