"Okay. We still have time so use this to plan ahead for the sports festival line up."It's that time again.
Y/N sighed at the thought of another sports festival.
Last year, she just sat aside, making sure that she will not be too noticeable for anyone to assign her in a competition. And she succeeded on her goal by just helping out on the preparations.
She's hoping to have a repeat of last year as their class representative stepped in front of the class to discuss their preparations.
Good thing that some people volunteered since they are a part of a sports club. Lucky for her, she isn't in any of them. But she can feel the eyes on her ever since the school year started and she's still not used to it.
So for this year's strategy, she busied herself in a homework assigned to them earlier so she can have more time playing the new game she just downloaded in her phone.
Y/N is already good at zoning out the noise around her that she didn't notice that one of her classmates "volunteered" her for the relay race.
"L/N for the relay race. Who else?"
At the second mention of her name, her attention is now on their class representative with wide eyes, then around her classmates, then on the board where her name is written under the relay race.
Me with what?! Wait... Me?!
Her heart is beating really fast against her chest as she gripped on the pen in her hand.
Can she refuse? How can she refuse?
She's not an athletic person. Yes, she enjoys jogging over the weekends but that's different from running. What if they lose because of her?
All these thoughts ends up in her getting herself embarrassed, or being hater more by her classmates that she haven't spoken to unless if needed for school related stuff.
What if... what if...
"L/N! Let's do our best!"
"Should we start practicing later?"
"I have pretty hands. What if the baton slip in my hand?"
"I'll smack you with the baton if you do."
Her thoughts were cut off by the voices of her classmates who are now gathering around her table. There are 2 boys and 2 other girls who are already her seatmates.
"What do you think, L/N?"
She turned to a male classmate with dark hair and a smile, the one who recommended her to participate. She also noticed that their attention is already on her. Looking down on her notes, she fiddled with the pen in her hand.
"I... I'm not really good with sports... so... so... it will be better if you cjust choose someone else..."
Y/N can already feel the tears threatening to fall. She's not used to this attention and the pressure is too much for her. She can only handle so much.
With her being the quiet and unsociable person in the class, they will surely hate her more for turning them down. But it's much worst if they lose because of her.
"I'm not good at sports either. But we'll practice and do our best!"
She felt a pat on her back that caused for her to look at her female classmate who has grin on her face. Y/N remembered her as one who was always too loud and always laughing.
"So, should we meet here after last period?"
Another girl smiled at her. The one with always the pretty hairstyle.
Can she really turn them down when she's finally being included?
She told herself that highschool will be different. That she will do her best to make more friends and interact with her classmates, but also keeping a low profile.
Looking back down on her notes, she slowly nodded her head. Hearing the cheers of her female classmate, resuming on talking about their preparations, asking for her opinion from time to time.
A friend or two is already an achievement. But is four too much to start with?
