ᐅ Cats rule the world.

The rest of the weekend flew by really fast, and then another.

2 weeks after the game, every student was busy studying for their mid term exams. It was a great distraction for Y/N to forget about what happened in after the game, as well as to keep her mind off of her insecurities.

There are days where she'll catch up to her new gaming friend and will rank up together as an ice breaker from the hours of studying.

It was the best distraction that she even tried to avoid being seen by the 2nd year whenever she sees him in the hallway. She's not even sure why she's avoiding him in the first place. But maybe, just maybe, that is the best way to avoid thinking about the pretty girl he was sharing a smile with.

How she wish she can share that same interaction with him just once.

Midterm exams ended and the results are finally posted in the bulletin board for everyone to see.

A mix of happy and devastated students gathered to check on the results.

She tiptoed from the back to see her results but it was impossible for her to see from that far. Squeezing in the crowd is not an option as well for students came in groups to check the results.

"Ooh! You're number 1, Y/N!"

She was surprised by the sudden squeal and jumping by Yuri, her light and savior.

"We need to celebrate later! Tell your ugly brother that I will be staying over tonight so he better stay away from your house, got it?"

Yuri draped an arm around her shoulder with a huge grin for her cousin's achievement.

Y/N doesn't know how to react. She just did her best and it paid off. Not like anyone else is going to notice that she is on top. All she always get from other people are hatred for having better grades, saying that she cheated or that's all she can offer.

Maybe they are right.

Will anyone else cheer for her, aside from Yuri, if she came second or last instead?

She doesn't even have any clubs to join that's why her after school activity is to make sure that Shiro the cat have enough food and water.

The cat purred as it rolled on its back to show off the belly for some belly scratches from her.

"You're gaining a lot of weight now, Shiro. The vet said we should be on the right diet."

As if in protest, the cat got up and walks over to its food bowl intead. Completely abandoning the pets they are getting.

"Shiro thinks you are fat shaming him."

She was startled by the sudden chuckle beside her.

There sitting beside her is the second year she's been trying to avoid in his school uniform, and a can of wet food for Shiro.

She quickly avoided his smile directed at her, getting unexplainable pounding in her chest once again. It someone hurts but does she really have the right to feel that way? that's all she can think about.

Y/N was about to leave when Kuroo speak once again. Making her halt in her tracks, and heat started crawling her cheeks.

"Congratulations on being number 1 in your year. You're really amazing, Y/N."

There was an evident smile in his voice so she can tell that he is smiling even with her back on him.

She doesn't really know how to respond to that. She didn't even notice that Kuroo stood up as well and peeked at her blushing face.

A moment of surprise was seen on the second year's face before he turned around himself.

"Keep... Keep up the good work, Y/N."

He was about to leave and head to the gym for their volleyball practice when Y/N called out, finally finding her voice.

"K-Kuroo senpai! ... Congratulations... on your game. Y-you were awesome too!"

There was a moment of silence before Kuroo raised a hand and waived at her, walking casually on his way to the gymnasium.

"Oi! Rooster head, you're late!"

Kuroo was welcomed by their libero with a scolding for being late for practice. He didn't seem to hear his nagging when he just settled his bag on the floor and sat down with a knee up close to his chest, ducking his head on it with his arm rested in between.

Ah... really...

"HEY! ARE YOU LISTENING?!! HELP ME PUT UP THE NET!!!"
