IF YOU GO, I'LL GO
★"WHY aren't you wearing a costume?" Dustin asked Vera. The girl turned around, once her bicycle was safely placed into the rack, and noticed all of the boys were dressed up as ghostbusters.
Vera didn't really want to talk to the boys, mainly because they were the same four people who were stalking Max yesterday. However, Dustin was now standing directly in front of Vera, his eyebrows raised and waiting for an explanation.
"I don't have one." Vera answered, truthfully. She didn't need a costume as she had planned to spend her halloween at home finishing reading Carrie. Maybe, if her Uncle didn't leave for New York, they would have been able to stay up all night watching horror movies. Vera could imagine them hiding behind the couch cushions every time something scary would happen. However, her Uncle had left, her father would be working at Enzo's until late, and her brother would most likely be getting drunk at some highschool party. So, Vera would be left alone for halloween.
"Is Max wearing a costume?" Lucas said, stepping forward so he now stood beside Dustin.
Vera shrugged her shoulders, pulling on the sleeves of her jacket, "Um, I'm not sure."
Dustins frowned, peering down at the girl, "Well aren't you and Max friends?"
Vera looked down at her feet, as she began to ramble, "I, um, I don't know.... We, we only talked yesterday, but, I-I don't — "
"Guys! Guys!" Dustin shouted, cutting off the girl's rambling. Vera lifted up her head, she hadn't noticed that the curly haired boy had moved towards the school bus. "Why is no one else wearing costumes?"
The group looked around, realising that Vera wasn't the only one who decided not to dress up.
A small smirk forced itself onto Vera's face. The boys' faces faded into a dark shade of red, Lucas and Dustin burying their faces into their hands.
Max would have loved to see this, was the only thought running through her head. The same four boys who were creepily watching the red head, are now standing before their school humiliated.
★ ———————— ★
Hawkins Middle School's halls were always bursting with students. However, because it was Halloween there was a much larger and chaotic energy spreading through the school.
The popular girls, including Amber, were gossiping loudly. Their hands comb through their hair, reapplying their lip gloss and giving dirty looks to anyone who passed them.
