NOBODY CALLS ME MAXINE

VERA's older brother would usually be driving her to school, however their Father had taken away Rykers car due to his irresponsible behaviours. Which included drinking stolen beers in a random field of Hawkins when he was supposed to be in class.

Pushing the pedals of her lilac bicycle, Vera's hair danced in the wind behind her. The girl far more enjoyed cycling to school than being driven in her brother's car for a large number of different reasons. But mainly because it didn't stink of a mix of beers and BO, and it was far less awkward.

The siblings lived in the same house, nevertheless whenever they were left alone an uncomfortable energy swarmed them, barricading their throats and stopping them from getting along. The two Nell's had nothing to talk about, they couldn't be any more different.

Ryker was athletic, he had many friends and was always outgoing. Vera was the opposite of her brother, she was smart, quiet and usually struggled to keep friends.

Pedalling towards the bike rack, the sound of a car engine revving crept behind her. Vera looked back over her shoulder, and her eyes widened as she registered that the car was speeding straight towards her.

Thinking fast, and ignoring the sudden feeling of the girl's heart slamming into her chest, the teenager swerved her bike off the road, and crashed down on the bicycle's brakes. She was seconds away from hitting a nearby tree, and instantly put her hand to her heart, letting out a deep breath.

The feeling of relief soon turned to irritation, when she swung her head back to the blue camaro that nearly took her life. The driver's door pushed open, and the young girl waited in anticipation for the reveal of who her almost-murderer was.

Two black boots stepy out of the car, Vera's nose wrinkled as she looked up at the man's outfit that consisted of tight blue denim, with a cigarette placed in between his two fingers.

Her eyes shifted as the passenger door opened, and a slight smile appeared onto her face as she watched a girl around her age step out of the car. The girl placed down a skateboard, and Vera watched carefully as she zoomed past her, the girl's beautiful red hair blowing in the wind.

Placing her bike into the rack, Vera mentally noted that she had never seen the red head before, and because the town of Hawkins was overly small, it must have meant that she was new. Perhaps, Vera could become friends with her, but that was highly hopeful thinking, especially because of how quickly her old friends had left.

Entering, the middle school, she walked straight to her first class which was science with Mr Clarke. He was a good teacher, who was extremely passionate about his subjects and Vera could tell that he truly cared about his students. He gave out many optional assignments, which most people took for granted, dismissing Mr Clarke's encouragement to complete them. He also always told his students that if they had any questions about the homework, they shouldn't hesitate to call.
