Something was different. Simon noticed the difference immediately. But it wasn't like the new visions.
No, this was another new variety. Although there was no difference in the vision itself.
It felt as if Simon was being watched. As if he was no longer the only one seeing the visions. As if he was no longer the only one carrying the burden.
But just like with the new visions, there was nothing he could do about it.
Apart from that strange feeling of being watched, nothing was different. The visions flowed in the strange order that Simon had become accustomed to since long.
This time he saw Liam. Liam in ghost form. Simon didn't know when his former friend had met such a brutal fate that led him to disappear from the outside world so early. He had never had any vision of it.
The anger came almost immediately. Previously, Simon's feeling towards his old classmate had been soft, normal to say the least. But now he couldn't help that the thoughts were so negative. What Liam had done to Aline, Simon's little sister, was too hard to let go.
He really wanted to get over it, but to do so required baby steps until he could fully accept the event.
Simon's first instinct had been to punch his "friend" right in the face. He was ashamed that his thoughts about Liam were so morbid. But he couldn't help it.
Liam seemed to be in the non-living world at the moment.
But there was something about him that Simon had never been able to guess. From Liam's eyes... tears flowed. Tears that only he knew existed. No one else could do anything about it.
Those tears must have flowed for a special reason.
After all, Liam had only been a young boy when he started working for Hector. A young boy with little choice but to obey the terrifying old man's terms to avoid the frightful threats coming true.
Liam had actually been given two very bad options to choose from. And he had chosen the one that guaranteed his safety in the future. However, it seemed as if the man had been a liar all along.
Simon could only wish that his friend would end up in a better place when the time came, a place far away from lies and greedy people who provide options that seem too good to be true.
Simon looked once more at his former best friend. He wiped the tears with his arm. It was clear that he regretted it. The sight of Liam in this 'state' gave Simon a guilty conscience. Liam didn't deserve to die hated, betrayed by those he had seen as friends. No, Liam deserved to be forgiven anyway.
And Simon would. Forgive him.
It would just take some time.
