Friday
"Jimin-ie, you know we should talk right." Yoongi's words pierce Jimin's ears the way the cold breeze is slicing his cheeks. They are leaning on the railing of the trail by the sea. The trail which is usually filled with footsteps during warmer seasons, but now it's quiet and catching the wind in howling sounds.
"I know." Jimin sighs and squints his eyes that pretend to look at something interesting in the distance over the sea, but he in fact sees nothing. Nothing but words flying through his mind.
"I wish the biggest problem we had was that I don't have a vagina, but..." Yoongi pauses as he waits for Jimin to stop laughing. "Alright alright, I know I'm funny, but seriously..."
"I know, sorry..." Jimin purses his lips to stop his smile. Just let me laugh for a little longer. I don't want to jump into the next problem so soon. I just want to celebrate that I have a boyfriend and that I won't miss vaginas.
"So, you live in Busan. I live in Jeju. We need to talk about this as well."
"I know..."
"I'm very serious about you Jimin-ie. I don't take this boyfriend title lightly. I'm all in."
"Me too."
"I'm just afraid I won't be able to come here so often. At least not until I find more people to work at Shooky's... there's so much shortage of staff everywhere, especially on Jeju. And Jaesung told me he wants to spend less time at the cafe because of his other work picking up again after covid. Having Jungkook as extra backup is really a blessing, but..."
"Hyung, I really don't mind coming to Jeju more often than you coming here. It's a lot easier for me to plan when I work. Maybe I could even get another client there."
"But... that doesn't feel fair."
"Hmm... maybe it's a bit out of balance, but I'll be damned if I let that be the reason that I barely get to see you. I won't let us drift apart like that. I really mean it when I say I'm all in as well." Jimin turns his head to look at the long black locks of hair dance around Yoongi's face. He tries to push some of the locks behind his small ear, but the locks immediately find freedom again.
"Alright, but... it's not only that." Yoongi purses his lips. Here it comes. "We can't keep going back and forth forever. At some point we'll either slowly but surely stop visiting each other and end as strangers again, or..."
"Or one of us moves."
"But I would never ask that of you Jimin-ie."
"Do we really have to talk about this already? Who knows, maybe we break up next month because you can't stand how I chew my food." Jimin tries to make Yoongi laugh. He receives a small chuckle.
"Maybe you're right, I'm just always thinking about all the bad things that can happen, so that it doesn't hurt so much later if we ignore it now."
"I get that... but Yoongi-ya, let's just try to enjoy getting to know each other. We have no clue what will happen in the future, it'll all work out as it's supposed to." Jimin tries to convince Yoongi, but he knows that this distance is going to hang over his boyfriend like a dark cloud every time they are together. He's not the type to ignore the darker sides of life. He always has some storm behind his eyes. Jimin hates to be part of that storm, he wishes he could be only part of the light.
"Mmm." Yoongi grunts and goes to stand behind Jimin so he can wrap his arms around him and burry his face in his neck.
While walking back over the trail Jimin feels the grip of Yoongi's hand on his own is weaker than before. He's probably still trying to collect all the negative possibilities in his mind. Is this what it's going to be like from now on when they meet? A short glimpse of excitement followed by the dread of one of them having to catch a plane again in one of the next days? Jimin has already made enough futile attempts to lighten the mood and decides to just stay quiet now.
"So ehh... tomorrow at the party..." Yoongi starts.
"Yes?"
"Are you going to introduce me as your boyfriend?"
"Sure. Jin already knows anyway, the others I'm not super close with." Damn, that sounded like I wouldn't introduce him as my boyfriend if they were all close friends. "I mean... I'd probably tell my closer friends before you'd meet them, so that I don't surprise them too much."
"Right."
Silence.
This day feels wrong. Something is wrong. It feels like putting on jeans that you thought were dry, but they're still slightly damp. Uncomfortable. But you have nothing else to wear so you just go out like that, hoping for it to dry in the fresh air, but instead it just feels cold.
"I'm sorry for my mood Jimin-ie. I have days like this sometimes..." Yoongi sighs.
"Hmm. How come?"
"I don't know. Sometimes my thoughts just don't allow me to be happy. It's almost like a hangover. Yesterday everything felt so good, it's as if I used up my happiness for two days worth. I feel bad ruining this day with you."
"You're not ruining it, it's just part of us getting to know each other." Jimin tries to sound as positive as possible.
"I wish you wouldn't have to know this side of me." Yoongi sighs. Jimin stops walking and pulls Yoongi back to face him.
"Hyung, I wan't to know every side of you. If roles were reversed, wouldn't you feel the same way? I'm sure sooner or later I'll be the one who's having a bad day. You wouldn't hate me for it right?"
"Of course not, my love."
"Then, don't worry about it. Be sad if you want to be sad. I'm always here for you Yoongi-ya." Jimin smiles carefully and squeezes Yoongi's hand. Yoongi slowly leans closer to kiss Jimin tenderly. The wind brushes his hair against their faces, but the temperature feels warm. As Yoongi pulls back and opens his eyes, a slight ray of sunlight breaks through the clouds.
"You're a freaking angel." Yoongi smiles.
