𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞

"Char, where are you?" Snapping out of my video editing haze, I yell out to my roommate and best friend, Emilie that I'm in my room. The front door slams shut as I turn back to my computer screen, faint footsteps get louder as they stop outside of my room door. "Hey, did you get an email from Dragonfly publishing?" I can feel Emilie taking a seat on the bay window by my desk. 

Without looking away from my computer I speak up, "Umm... I'm not sure. I haven't really checked my email since I sat down to edit about," looking at the corner of my screen I check the time, "two-ish hours ago. Why?" Saving my current editing progress I look over to Emilie to see what email she could possibly be talking about. I wait for her to tell me, but she seems to miss my silent request for her to continue.

"Em, are you gonna tell me about this email or..." Once my words click she finally continues, "Oh right. Okay so we've been invited to a hockey game." Clearly I must be missing how this possibly has anything to do with Dragonfly publishing seeing as Emilie is smiling from ear to ear.

My face contorts in confusion having no idea what's going on. "Em, can you please elaborate a little more? You're not really giving me much to go off of." A heavy sigh leaves her lips, "Char, Dragonfly wants us to go to a hockey game to cause some buzz for a new hockey romance series being released soon. Dragonfly will cover all the expenses and all we have to do is do what we do best, make content and post it." There's just no way this is true. Emilie likes to prank me every once in a while and she says it's to "keep me on my toes". 

Suspicious, I open my email and look for anything from Dragonfly and look at that, Emilie wasn't lying. My eyes progressively get wider as I read through the email. Emilie and I have been doing YouTube, specifically booktube, for the last three years. We've obviously gotten a few sponsorship deals here and there from companies, but never from a publishing company. This is something any book content creator dreams of and Dragonfly chose us for this. "Oh my God Em. I thought you were pulling a prank on me."

"I would never lie about an opportunity like this." Almost like a flip of a switch, both realize how real this is, causing us to get up and hug while jumping around. Once we come out of our excitement, we stare at the open email on my computer. "Are we gonna do this?" Turning my head, I look at Em waiting for a response. "Uh, hell yeah we are!" High-fiving each other, we each type up a reply to Dragonfly. 

Emilie and I have known each other for quite a while now. We met in elementary school, but we've been stuck together like glue ever since. At this point in my life she isn't just my best friend, she's like my sister. We'd do just about anything and everything for each other without hesitation. As kids we connected because we both loved reading and that's never changed for us. Our love of books and our friendship is what brought us onto YouTube to make book content. Having this be our job is something we've never taken for granted seeing as it's what brings us joy, day in and day out. 

Without missing a heartbeat, the team at Dragonfly sends us all the details concerning the game and the series we'll be working to promote. "Okay, so the game is at the Prudential Center in Newark and we'll be there for the Devils. Newark isn't too far and it's about two weeks from now. We have time to mentally prepare and set up some ideas." Nodding I get lost in my own thoughts for a minute. "Maybe we should learn a little bit about the team. It'll probably help us and there's no harm in learning the ins and outs of hockey. We could make the most out of the experience, you know?" Not wasting any time, we both start searching and learning anything we can.
