“I'm already exhausted from a full day of cleanin'. I can't believe we still gotta wash a hundred windows!” grim's shoulders sagged and his ears drooped as he sulked at his misery. it has been like this ever they stopped at the cafeteria to wait for a certain ginger head to arrive. and [y/n] has been at the edge of her patience. she sighed at the cat, “If you didn't lash out on Ace like you did then you wouldn't have gotten yourself into this situation.” the cat pouted at her pitiless behavior, “What are ya blamin' me for? He was the one started it.”

she clicked her tongue, slightly aggravated by grim's complaining. to [y/n], the cat's behaviour resembled that of a child who had gotten into a fight and knew that a part of it was their fault but didn't want to admit so out of pettiness and pure childishness.

“What's buggin' me is, Ace ain't even here yet! To make us wait, after what he did... Grrr!” the little sound grim made at the end made a chuckle erupt from her throat. she knelt down and picked up grim before she sat down on one of the benches. hoping to calm him down (and maybe shut him up) she held him in her arms and started to pet his head. “Maybe he just got caught up on something. There's no harm in waiting.”

[y/n]'s gentle pats was able to calm him down, but grim was still grumbling under his breath. despite how quiet grim's mumbling was, she was able to hear something along the lines of 'stupid ace' and 'he better come or i'll skin him alive'. amusement creeped up on her as she and grim continued to wait.

it has already been almost an hour utmost and ace still hasn't arrived for his punishment. [y/n] doubts that he'd be that busy knowing that it is still the first day of school for him and the other students.

“And now he's super late!” yelled grim, his anger quite visible with the way his voice sounded. “I bet he up and bailed on us!” he exclaimed.

[y/n]'s arms loosened their hold around Grim and set him back down on the ground before she straightened herself, “I wouldn't be surprised if he did. Although, I thought that he would at least listen since it is a direst order from the headmage himself.” glancing down at the visibly irritated cat, she stood up from the bench. “We could go look for him if you want.” she suggested.

furious and, quite agitated, grim was quick to oblige to her suggestion and complain, “Ain't no way am I doin' his punishment for him!” he pumped his tiny paw up in the air determinedly. “C'mon, [Y/n], I don't care if we gotta drag him kickin' and screamin', he's washin' those windows!” demanded the cat as he started to walk away to the entrance. despite how "threatening" his words may have seemed to be, [y/n] couldn't help but laugh at them a little.

expecting to find ace in the classroom he had barged in, grim was met with nothing but silence. he thought that there would've been at least one person in the room but there was no one.

“Grim you shouldn't just barge into a room like that. You could have at least knocked first.” scolded the girl but the cat paid no heed towards her words as he was determined to find the ginger now matter what. a shadow flew to the back of one of the book shelves and grim immediately dashed towards it, “Hey! Ace! Get over here! Try to hide from me, will ya!”

unfortunately there was no one behind the bookshelf. his flaming cat ears drooped in disappointment, “Huh... Maybe there's really no one here?”

“Oh, I wouldn't say that, I'm here.” a talking painting of a man had appeared as he(it?) floated in front on the cat. grim screamed in shock, “That painting just talked!” the man in the painting raised an eyebrow, “Yes, and...? Is a talking painting really such an oddity at this school? The lady in the portrait on that wall talks too. As does the gentleman in the portrait on this one. As long as a painting has a mouth, why wouldn't it be able to talk? Is that really so strange?” as the the man in the painting spoke his eyes wandered off to the other paintings that he had mentioned since he couldn't move his body, with the exception his head and face.
