Thump* Thump* Thump*
The short, repeating low noise echoed through the wood followed by the sound of a tree toppling over.
Standing at the stump of the tree was a woman, thick with muscle and her body covered in scares with her long papaya colored hair tied up in a bun. In her hand was a heavy axe.
The woman walked over to the downed tree and raised her axe. Thump* She started chopping the tree into small sections and placing the pieces onto a cart where a long haired grey and black cat sat.
The job of dropping a tree and chopping it into pieces took a while. The woman worked without saying a word. She worked till the sun started setting.
"Kids!" The woman shouted, "Time to go home!"
The sound of leaves rustling and heavy panting erupted from the woods and two dogs jumped out, one black and one white. They bumped and shoved into eachother playfully making low sharp yips and barks.
Picking up the cart handles, the woman started pulling it through the woods. Thirty minutes later a small stone house could be seen between the trees. Pulling the cart up to the side of the house, the woman grabbed a cloth and pulled it over the chopped lumber.
Walking over to the front door, there waited the two dogs and the cat. Upon opening the door a little living space came into view and everyone entered. A large bed with a fire place and a chair was on one side of the house, and off to the other side was a wash area with a tub.
Sitting in the chair the woman and thew on some wood into the fire place and using some dried foliage to start it up. After the fire was crackling she reach down into a bag beside her and pulled a papery tube that was filled with green plant life. The woman placed one tip of the tube in the fire then brought it to her lips, taking a long drag, and exhaling a puff of smoke.
The small room filled with a musky earthy smell as the smoke spread, pouring out of the woman's mouth like an ever flowing water fall. As she relaxed the animals curled up on the bed falling asleep.
The world around was quite, getting darker. Yet the woman just sat in her chair not showing any sign of going to bed soon. She just smoked, gazing into the fireplace. Almost waiting for something.
