Thrill of the hunt

35. Minho

Work had been very slow tonight, which was both frustrating and helpful.  Frustrating for me because the shift was dragging on for what felt like days, but helpful for Changbin and Felix who were still bonding, it had been a week since they had taken the elixir and they looked both exhausted and the happiest I'd seen either of them for months.  I was happy for them but I also felt like I was being left behind, I was the only person in our coven to be single, so when we all met up to watch a movie I'd be sat on my own while the others all snuggled up to each other.  Last night Felix had shocked me a little, I'd just refilled everyone's popcorn and was returning to my seat when he grabbed my arm and pulled me down onto his and Changbin's lap, he locked an arm around my neck and told me that he wasn't going to let go and if I tried to make him Changbin would be within his rights to slap me to protect his bond.  I'd tried to argue and recruit Changbin to my side but it didn't work, I spent the rest of the night being hugged by both Changbin and Felix, which wasn't as awkward or tense as I thought it might be.  Being around a human who was bonding with someone was always a tense time, there was a risk that the Vampyre bond would see you as a threat and attack you.   Apparently, Changbin trusted me with the most precious thing in his life, which made me feel just a little bit proud and thankful.

We had just locked the door at the end of the shift when my phone pinged, I felt my stomach curl with anticipation that it might be my Ghost.

Shammatt:-  be at my chambers by Midnight, I need to speak with you urgently.

my heart sank, as far as I was aware I hadn't done anything wrong or broken any rules.  I wracked my brain to try and think of anything that might land me in hot water.   Was he going to punish me again and restrict me from hunting for my Ghost or was this something else entirely?

Me:- Yes, Sir.

Shammatt:- Use the tunnels, I don't want anyone to know you're here.

Me:- Yes, Sir.

Well, that was weird, the tunnels were never used because of the risk of them collapsing, but for some reason, Master Shammatt seemed to think that the risk was the lesser of two evils.

Me:- Channie, I have been summoned to the boss's Chambers.

Channie:- What have you done now?

Me:- I've behaved, he said he needed to speak to me urgently.

Channie:- want me to come with you?

Me:- Thanks Dad but I can do it on my own
Me:- I have my big boy pants on and everything.

Channie:- sounds more like you have your grumpy pants on to me.

Me:- same thing
Me:- I have to go via the tunnels and be there by Midnight

Channie:- go get changed, it will take you a couple of hours to get there, Jinnie and I will sort out the closing.

I headed back to the changing room and stood there for a moment feeling sorry for myself, this would be the second night that I hadn't been able to hunt for my Ghost and I was starting to struggle a little. I didn't have time to go home and indulge in the plushie, but at least I had fed yesterday so wasn't in danger of becoming obsessed.  If I couldn't follow his scent there was only one thing left for me to console myself with.
