❄️

Your body ached miserably. Blood seeped from your mouth, your head throbbing in pain. Your legs were shaking, and you were panting recklessly.

But it was all worth it to see the Duke knocked out of the ring.

"Y...Y-Y/N... has won! Match over!"

The bell rang, causing a sharp pain to ring in your ears. You felt your hand pulled up, more blood falling from the corners of your mouth.

Spitting it out and smiling, you stared down at the Duke.

He sat on one knee, using his fist on the ground as support to hold his body. He struggled to breathe, as you had punched his throat for your finishing blow.

You couldn't make out the voices around you, as Gardes rushed to his side to hoist him up.

It was the most gruesome fight you had ever encountered. You battled plenty in the desert and had a lot of struggles, but this particular match brought out the worst in you.

Or, in your case, the best.

Your heart pounded in your chest, watching the room spin as you struggled to stand on your feet.

"You're going to pass out. We're taking you to the infirmary." A stranger said next to you, grabbing your arm.

You wanted to shake him off and tell him you were fine, but you couldn't even look him in the eye.

Your body was gently pulled off the ring, and two other people surrounded you.

Letting out a small laugh, you watched the Duke lay unconscious on the ground.

With that image burned into your head, it was enough to get out your final thought.

Ha. Who has authority now?

❄️

A strange smell caused your eyes to flutter open.

Blinking them, your vision focused on an ambient light shining down onto you.

Swallowing, you moved your hand and wiggled your toes to make sure you weren't dead.

"Hey there~!" A tiny voice called in your ear.

You turned your head to meet face to face with a small girl.

"...Huh?" You murmured, fixating your gaze into her eyes.

"You have some pretty serious injuries. I would suggest trying to sit up slowly." She said, feeling your forehead.

You followed her instructions and used your arms to pull you up. Your body ached in response, but you grit your teeth and pushed past it.

"Damnit. Where am I?" You said, looking around. Most of the beds were occupied, and you saw a lot of medical equipment surrounding the room.

"The infirmary. I'm Sigewinne, the head nurse." The little girl said.

"Ah. My fight." You recalled the punches you endured from the Duke, and the picture of him passed out on the ground before your consciousness slipped away from you.

"Yep. I don't like the Pankration center, purely because of this." She squeezed your wrist, making you wince in pain. "You sprained it."

You remembered how you were pinned to the pole, a fierce grip making your left wrist snap. Scoffing, you looked down at the cast that Sigewinne had wrapped for you.

"...And where is he?" Taking another look around the room, you noticed that the Duke was no where to be found in the occupied beds.

"Oh, Wriothesley? He woke up a long time ago. I tried to get him to stay, but he left, despite his injuries. He can be so stubborn..." Sigewinne said, puffing her cheeks.

You grinned.

So his name is Wriothesley.

"How long have I been out?" You asked.

"Two days."

You widened your eyes, coughing from her answer. "Two days?!"

"Yep. I'm sure you're hungry. I'll fix you something to eat." Sigewinne skipped off, walking to the corner of the room.

You shook your head in disbelief. There wasn't any possible way that you had been unconscious for that long. Not even when you passed out before, the longest you were gone for was at least a few hours.

"Here. This will make you feel better." Sigewinne pushed a tray into your lap, along with a bottle of medicine.

"Uh..." You stared at the strange colored food. It was the same as the time you received a box of purple colored food at the cafeteria.

"Trust me. It's good!" She reassured you, watching as you slowly ate a bite of what you hoped was meatloaf.

It was... surprisingly tasty.

"See? I told you." Sigewinne smiled, placing a hand over her heart.

"Mhm..." You hadn't consumed food for three days. You picked up the pace with your eating, demolishing the portions.

"Hey, not so fast! You can mess up your stomach!" Sigewinne said.

But you didn't listen to her. Gulping down the bowl of soup, you held back a burp.

"Sigewinne... I'm going to—"

The man in the bed beside you threw up on the floor. You looked down in disgust as a strange blue liquid came from his mouth. He gagged and continued to vomit, causing Sigewinne to rush over and grab a bin.

"Good! Good... get it all out..." She patted his back, watching him hurl into the bin.

Despite seeing this, you continued to eat.

"Y/N, have you had any food from the cafeteria lately?" Sigewinne asked as she comforted the man.

"Nah." You talked with your mouth full. "Thish ish my firsh meal down here."

"Okay, that's relieving." She sighed as the man laid back down in his bed. "I was worried that you were out for so long not because of your injuries."

You remembered the conversation you held a while ago. Something about food poisoning...

Swallowing the last bit of your soup, Sigewinne handed you a glass of crystal clear water. "Drink this while taking your pills."

You did so, pushing down a large red pill with a sip of water.

Sigewinne seemed like a caring soul. You found yourself trusting her as she asked you to remove your shirt so she could change your bandages.

"There you go. Try to rest up. Even though that's what you'd been doing this entire time." She said, patting your back.

"I'd rather do something productive. It's honestly scary how long I was out for." You responded, laughing.

"I understand. But your health comes first." She rubbed a cool cream over your back, making you sigh at its feel.

Taking her word, you laid back down and looked up to the ceiling. You really didn't want to go to sleep, but you couldn't fight it off. You figured the pill you had taken caused you to feel drowsy.

Closing your eyes, your body grew heavy as you entered another deep slumber.
