After the performance, Camellia instructed the kids that they could spend the rest of the night playing games and having fun. Just as long as they stick together as a group.
Eventually, Camellia was sitting on a bench that showed a view of one of the parks lakes.
She just needed some time for herself from the constant praise and attention that she received after her performance.
For now, the night was truly beautiful. The stars were out and there was a full moon up in the sky. The best part was that each year on the anniversary of the city, they light up fireworks in a variety of colors for all to see.
Camellia was so deep in her thoughts that she didn't notice someone sitting beside her. "There you are!" Camellia jumped in surprise before she realized that it was just Wukong. "Wukong... you scared me" she said a bit nervously.
"Sorry... um sorry. Listen I just wanted to tell you how awesome you were up there on stage. Your voice is still as beautiful as ever." Camellia blushed before responding with "Thanks...um... that's sweet of you. Also, the rose was quite lovely." "You're welcome. Oh! I almost forgot...I... um... got you a little something" he said as he held out a little tin container with a bow on top. A gift? Camellia thought as she took the small circular tin.
Camellia than proceeded to open it before there was a huge smile on her face.
She can't remember the last time that she had these, but the first time that she had tasted them... it was like eating perfection. "Butter Cookies!!!!!" Camellia squealed in delight as she saw the mouthwatering cookies inside.
Wukong smiled fondly as he watched her take a bite out of one of the cookies. When she did, she nearly melted on the spot.
After the first cookie, she ate another, then another, then another.... only stopping when she heard Wukong clear his throat and say "Whoa butterfly, slow it down a bit, leave some for the rest of us. The kids... including myself by the way, would love to eat some for later" he stated jokingly.
Camellia blushed embarrassingly before wiping the crumbs off of her mouth and looking away. "Ah, don't be embarrassed. These always were your favorite. So, I'm not to shocked by your reaction." Camellia turned back towards her husband before whispering "You remembered?" Wukong's eyes grew wide in shock before stating " Of course I remembered. I would never forget all of the things that make you happy."
Camellia widened her eyes in shock before looking down saddened.
Wukong could only sigh as he also looked down upon the ground before saying "Listen Camellia. I truly am sorry for leaving. You shouldn't have had to raise all of these kids on your own and carry so many responsibilities upon your shoulders. I wish I could take it all back, but I have my reasons. Those reasons however, I'm not ready to talk about yet. I hope you understand. But rest assured, I will not stop until I earn your forgiveness and make it up to you, even if it takes forever." Wukong concluded.
There was only silence before Wukong felt a hand on top of his. He looked at the conjoined hands before focusing on his wife's face. He noticed tears going down her cheeks and was worried that he made her upset.
But then something unexpected happened...She hugs him.
Wukong didn't know what to do before he heard her whisper "You have no idea how long I've been waiting to hear that. Thank you" she said as she hugged him a bit tighter. Wukong's only response was to hug her back with as much love as she is giving him.
Eventually she pulls back from the hug and gives Wukong a small grin before saying "I appreciate your promise Wukong, but it's still going to take a while for me to fully forgive you. You will have to work harder than you have worked before in your life. No joke. So, I hope your prepared?" Wukong smiled back before stating "Whatever makes you feel comfortable. I respect your decision."
Just then multiple fireworks lit up the sky. "Fireworks!!!! I just love fireworks!!!!" Wukong exclaimed as he jumped up and down in excitement. Camellia laughed in amusement as she watched her husband act like a child. But that is one of the many things that she loves about him. The others included his charisma, humor, loyalty, fearlessness, wisdom and the fact that deep down inside he is still a child at heart.
It wasn't long however before they were soon joined by their children, little Sakura sitting upon her father's lap as they watched the sky with wonder.
Wukong and Camellia then glanced at each other and smiled. Right then and there, they had hope that things would get better.
A/N: I would appreciate some feedback towards the interaction between Camellia and Sun Wukong. It was a bit tricky to write but I wanted them to have a moment that was halfway towards a romantic relationship again. Please provide questions or suggestions if you wish. Thank you!
