KEHLANI

Nana!" Ajani squealed, clapping his little hands together. His excitement was contagious, and I couldn't help but laugh.

I cut off a chunk of banana, gently squeezing it to make it easier for him to eat, and passed it over.

"Unlike your daddy, you actually love bananas," I teased, brushing a crumb off his cheek. Ajani adored all kinds of fruit—honestly, he wasn't a picky eater at all, which made my life so much easier.

"What do we say, love?" I asked, watching him carefully as he stuffed the banana in his mouth.

"Thank yu!" he sang, his gummy teeth and messy face on full display.

The house alarm chimed before I could clean him up, and both of us turned to the door, smiles spreading across our faces.

"Da!" Ajani shouted, wiggling out of his seat. His little legs carried him as fast as they could to the front door.

"Heyyy, daddy's boy!" Amir greeted him warmly, scooping Ajani into his arms. Their daily hug and handshake routine had become a ritual I never tired of watching—it was a small moment of love, but it felt so special.

Amir kissed Ajani's forehead and cheek, making him giggle. "You haven't been giving Mommy any trouble today, have you?"

Ajani shook his head solemnly, though the mischievous twinkle in his eyes told a different story.

"Good," Amir said, grinning. "That's my boy. We gotta take care of her, right?"

"Mhmm, awlright," Ajani agreed with a giggle, still clinging to Amir's knee.

Amir turned his gaze to me, his dark eyes soft and full of warmth. "Hey, my love." He walked toward me, his voice dropping just slightly. "You got my gift, right?"

I tilted my head in mock confusion. "What gift?"

His smile faltered for a moment, but before he could reply, I burst into laughter. "I'm kidding, baby. I got it. Thank you—I loved the color."

He chuckled, relief washing over his face. "Mhm, I got you. Come here."

He kissed me deeply, his lips soft and slow against mine. I melted into him, my hands instinctively sliding up to his shoulders. The world around us faded—until a tiny groan snapped us back.

We broke apart to see Ajani tugging at Amir's pant leg, his face scrunched up in exaggerated frustration.

"You got your kisses," Amir teased, smirking. "Let me get mine."

"He big mad," I said, laughing.

Amir chuckled, crouching to Ajani's level. "You gonna let Mommy finish her breakfast, or should I get you ready?"

"I'll handle it," I said, waving him off. "You've been working all day."

"Alright, Mama. You sure you're okay?" His voice softened, and he leaned in, sliding one hand to my waist.

"I'm okay, Amir," I assured him.

He frowned slightly, his brows furrowing in concern. "No, for real, Kehlani. You're good? Is there anything I can do for you?"

I cupped his face, brushing my thumb over his cheek. His worry made my heart ache in the best way. "You do more than enough for me already, baby. But where's this coming from?"

"I can't check on my wife anymore?" he teased, emphasizing the word "wife."

I laughed, shaking my head. "I'm forever grateful for you, Amir. You know that."
