It was a late night in Naboo's big palace, there was silence everywhere, guards and maids were sleeping, preparing or cleaning. But not even a soul was heard, and the halls were dimly illuminated. Iris wasn't afraid of the dark, but even the most courageous person would be intimidated by those never ending halls. Iris wanted to relax before she went to bed, so she decided to read her book on the terrace of the palace.

She arrived when the sun was setting, but shortly after she had to ask for a lamp to continue reading on the outdoor couch. Iris was relaxed, she was nestled under a cosy blanket, and her eyes were even starting to close but she was arriving at the best part of her story. She was so focused on her book that she almost missed the voice that called her.

"Miss Palpatine, excuse me to disrupt your reading, I know it's frustrating when you can't finish the page. I just wanted to let you know that the personnel are asleep, and Princess Kira is heading to bed. "Obi-Wan said in front of Iris in a gentle tone.

Iris noticed that even though it was late, the Jedi didn't change his formal attire. She was surprised by the unexpected visit, but she recomposed herself quickly and said.

"Call me Iris, Master Kenobi. Thank you for letting me know, I might have lost track of the time reading. Indeed, it might be time to go to bed, tomorrow Kira and I are thinking of going for a walk." Iris answered while smiling at the man.

"Of course, Iris. And call me Obi-Wan. If you don't mind , I will escort you to your bedroom." Obi-Wan concluded, while extending his hand for Iris to take and stand up.

At first Iris, was a little bit indecisive, but it would be rude to turn down his hand, so she took it. His hand was clearly bigger compared to hers, the hand was surprisingly smooth, but you could see some scars on it, probably battle scars. Then, Obi-Wan swiftly helped her up, it seemed that he didn't need any extra force to lift her. When she stabilized herself, she wanted to pick the blanket up, but Obi-Wan quickly took the blanket and walked away. Iris hurriedly followed him, then when she caught up with him, they went into the corridors of the palace together.

"If I may ask, what were you reading? I love reading, but nowadays, I don't find the time to do it." Obi-Wan asked while he looked down at Iris.

"It's a short horror story that I found on the bookshelf in my bedroom. In Couruscant, I have already read all the books I had there and I forgot to bring any new ones. Luckily, the Amidala sisters know me, so they have filled a bookshelf full of new books, so I know how I can spend my time." Iris quipped.

"Horror? Well, you are a brave woman to read such stories, and then walk through the palace at night. Most people wouldn't do it." Obi-Wan laughed.

Iris had never seen a laugh or a more radiant smile than Obi-Wan's, the way his mouth moved upwards, and the way his straight white teeth showed, anyone could easily fall for that, but she had to be strong and focused. She couldn't do what Kira suggested, her father would kill her. Do not trust the Jedi and stay far away, but with the brilliant idea of Kira to have a personal guard, and her desire to find a attractive and caring Jedi were driving Iris to madness.

"Well, when you are accustomed to reading horror stories, you get immune to some things." Iris continued laughing with Obi-Wan, trying not to think about other things.

They continued making small talk until they reached the big wooden doors that led into Iris's room.

"Thank you very much, Obi-Wan. I'll see you tomorrow morning." Iris concluded while opening the doors.

"You're welcome Iris, it's been a pleasure to meet you, and I'm eager to see you tomorrow, goodnight." Obi-Wan said before giving her a warm smile and slowly walking away, losing himself into the darkness that even the dim candles couldn't illuminate.
